Scammed on Ebay for a set of Renntech Monolites
A word of warning. I was scammed on Ebay for a set of Renntech Monolites. If you see a set offered by somebody from Seattle, fuggettaboutit. The worst is that I rally wanted those wheels. Oh well.

wheels
There's a company in Florida that makes Mercedes "look-a-like" wheels that sells on E-bay, the seller's name is "moore9911", they make 17&18 inchers with real MB centers. I've been thinking of putting some 17's on my 190E.

You should have some recourse. Check with paypal or ebay.
Sorry to hear about the scam. Who was the sell? Can you post the link to the auction?
What exactly happened?

Unfortunately, the seller requested payment by postal money order. When they never came, he kept e-mailing up until I was given notice by Ebay. Ebay, of course, will do nothing. I plan to go to my local police dept. I have a name, a business address, and the receipts from the post office.
I certainly should have known better, but what can you do. The police effort may be futile, but doing notjing certainly is.

I'm really sorry to hear about this. I have been scammed once too on ebay. Was buying something for the wifey, and it was money postal order too! I'm never doing that again! My story was the same as yours. I only had their name, business address, and my receipts from the post office. Ebay did nothing. Absolutely nothing. So I was screwed for about 1500 usd....sigh....
Good luck my friend.
Good luck my friend.

thats the real lesson learned here. ebay does absolutely nothing to help you. these people were able to manipulate feedback, were using multiple accounts, had no verifyable info. i exposed all of this on my own to ebays trust and safety. their response, close all of it down to make their *** look good and turn their back on me completely when they had pertinant info on these other accounts that could have helped me and my PI. they suck.

I contacted Ebay and got a form e-mail about stopping checks etc, plus the announcement that they can't release any personal info that might help me track the guy down. I then sent an extremely annoyed response, saying how the Chicago Tribune was interested in this story. I then got a PERSONAL response with a site where police can log in and get the info. So I went to my local police station and gave them the info that I had, incuding the Ebay site. I don't think that anything will come of it, but at least I did something.

I think the real lesson here is that if you try to save a buck or two, you may get jacked from ebay, and nigerian scammers.
Please support your local reputable retailers. At least there, if something goes wrong, you can yell at somenone face to face.

Well this hits close to home simply because I just purchased a set of Monolite wheels for my SL55. I was looking on e-bay but ended up buying them from a person on the forum who was very honest and upfront with everything.
Good deals do exist but trouble is scams exist as well.
So in the end I got a set of 19 inch Monolites with PS2 tires (near new - but with some inside tread wear on the fronts - car must have been lowered. Rears and center of the fronts measured 9/32's which is basically new) for 2750 (i had to buy a set of lugs) with seller paying all shipping costs.
Plus the wheels ended up being the more rare 19x10.5 rears not the normal 19x10's. And they were diamond cut as well.
Great wheels. Just find a set that is being sold by an honest person. If the contact I bought from has an additional set I will let you all know for he is a very straight arrow.
