wheels
I'm ordering my SL55 today (Pewter/Burl Walnut /aluminum trim/ V60 phone/ Bi-Xenon headlamps/keyless go/distronic) ..I'm still not sure which wheels to get. I've heard that the multi spokes are a bear to keep clean, although they distingish the 55 from the 500.
I have the five (5) spoke bright chrome AMG's on my 2000 S500 now and I would like to have something different on my SL55. I'm just not sure what my options are, guess I'll find out today when I get back to the dealership. I like the Brabus wheels but not for another $9 +k
Car to be delivered early January ......Oh yeah!!!

Just received my AMG Styling IV rims this morning (10" x 19" ET28 Rears and 8,5" x 19" ET25 Fronts). Beautiful, gleaming 2-piece specimens which really make the car look classy without going overboard. This is my favourite rim for this car, without a doubt. And much easier to keep clean than the multilspoke Styling Vs. Because its made specially for the car, you won't have any fitment or handling problems.
Other nice possibilities I considered were the 2-piece 19" Lorinser LM-5 or even the 18" 1-piece AMG Styling III, which is much cheaper than the above two, and still looks great (see F-1 Pace Car).
I paid the equivalent of just under US$3900 for my set of 4 rims, and the tyres (Michelin 285/30 and 255/35) were an extra US$900 for the 4.
Regards

18 spoke wheels
I'm staying with the 18" multi spoke AMG wheels. The manager of the dealership has his VIP in Pewter with customer AMG 19" wheels.. Apparently 100 sets were made for the VIP's only. He told me I could get them in 18". I told him I'll wait until the car comes in then decide what to do. He told me to look on the AMG web page and see what they offer (he didn't want to see me wreck the car with an after market wheel). I couldn't find an official AMG web site maybe someone reading this could directed me. I eventually want 19" rims. I doubt if anyone would give me much for the 18" muti spoke wheels, but who knows. And of course the muti spoke's will let eveyone know it's a 55 and not a 500.

if you go into mb usa and build your own sl55 they offer a second style k wheel that is curved spokes like the slr. you might check these out and see if they are available. i was thinking of these for my sl55.

This car looks good in any wheel stock or after market, I have a car on order Briliant Silver, Charcoal interior, Aluminum Trim, Vario Roof, V60, Parktronic, Ventilated Seats, Tire Pressure Monitor, Keyless Go, Bi-Zenon, CD Changer, and Deffinetley No and I mean No Distronic and can see no reason in a car like this why anyone would order and use that option. Did I mention that I went with the 21 Spoke Wheels because they are so purrty and Distintive to this car. The build date is last week in Dec. and a ETA of Late January or early Feburary. Cant wait but a car like this is worth the wait!

distronic
I am only thinking of the distronic for the long rides between LA and Vegas it's usually bumper to bumper averaging 60 mph. Sometimes it's like demolition derby so I figure maybe an extra precaution.

I've now settled into a routine of cleaning the wheels, once a week, hose them down with a jet wash set on low, alloy wheel cleaner, deal with any stubborn corners with a brush, leave it and jet wash them a bit more intensively to rinse.
Takes 15 minutes max. The secret is to get the dirt off before it sets. I'm happy I stayed with the multi-spokes.
I've had the car for 4 weeks now and I get such a kick every time I drive it. I'd even pass the Basic Proficiency Test in the Sat-Nav, after extensive study and "field trials". Went out to get some milk yesterday but used the Sat-Nav to guide me to a store 50 miles away
Expensive litre of semi-skinned (half-fat for those in the US).
I love it when she says "Make a U-turn if you can" after you've dis-obeyed the instructions. Do I detect the slightest trace of Germanic exasperation in her voice?

Laguna Nigel...I live in Dana Point and I'm over to the dealership once a week getting a wash...might as well let them worry about detailing the multi spokes too. They always do a great job on the washes and details. I'm still not sure about the Pano Roof, it doesn't seem to look that great on the lighter colored cars. The Pano option could mean something when it comes to selling or trading it in down the road (way down the road), but I doubt it.

I agree with you Breeze - with black or dark blue, I think the pano roof looks great, with silver, not sure. The most recent Porsche Targa had a glass roof and that always looked weird in silver.

Oh ok. Im on Lake Mission Viejo. I ordered my CL55 from Laguna Niguel as well. So you can wash your car there as often as you want? I'll definitely be taking advantage of that when the car arrives......
