SL600 question

I realize this is a bit off-topic considering it's not a 55 or 65, but to heck with it, the 600 forum is so lame. Anyhow... considering a SL600 instead of the E55... anyone know some 1/4 mile times?

I just want to make sure I upgrade to a faster car, not go to a slower car.

So, any times? Thanks in advance.

Stock I would love to know the answer as well. I will try to take mine to the track next spring. ECU tuned I believe it can break into the very high 11's. Not bad for stock rubber. If the ML63 is a 13.1 sec quarter then the SL600 is considerably better than 13.1 My estimate would be mid 12's stock based upon the seat of the pants comparison to the ML63. It isn't the 0-60 where it does the damage but rather the 60-120mph. Sounds like there are good tunes out there for 2k.
If you do try a 600 I strongly suggest putting the 19" wheels off the 55/65 on it. It handles like a totally different car with P zero Rosso 19" than the stock Michelin Pilot Sport 18". If I was doing it again I would look hard at the 65.

I am thinking and in the process of negotiations for an SL600 too...
I test drove it...compared to our E55's...it does feel faster high end ..also on the highway

SL55 AMG, M5 E60, 2002 S55 AMG, Range Rover Sport Supercharged,
SL600: V-12 Biturbo 510 horses at 612 ft lb torque.

E55: 469 horses, 516 ft lb torque. Think about it.

More torque and power for the SL600 and can be more easily modded to over 600 horses with ease...

Stock for stock? Quarter Mile times vary for both cars. I'd say pretty close.

We have a great ECU set up for the 600 cars....plus we can do some custom work for different situations.

So far, only happy clients. The 600 cars are very tunable. They do need a little help in the chassis department.

SL55 AMG, M5 E60, 2002 S55 AMG, Range Rover Sport Supercharged,
Nope. It's around 612 ft lb torque on the current 600s.

The older ones (2003 to 2006 or 07) have 590 ft lb torque.

Here you go...

Self reported times here: http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Benz--SL600-Drag-Racing.html

The 11.90 result appears to be from the famous/infamous MotorTrend test: http://www.caranddriver.com/shortroa...enz-sl600.html

Popular Mechanics ran 12.48 in a stock SL600: http://www.popularmechanics.com/auto...86.html?page=3

so my times

So my times in video are respectable. Biggest problem I run into is traction off the launch, but with street tires that is going to be a problem.

StephenK,

Do you still have the RennTech mods or or were they removed? Any thoughts on the intercooler pump upgrade?

"Respectable" is putting it mildly, StephenK. Sub-12 in a street car is outstanding, especially in a car as heavy as an SL.

I'd guess your SL600 is chip tuned. Yes? No?

I upgraded my rear tires from the stock PZero Rossos to Nitto NT555RIIs. Shorter life but they really stick, both at the track and on the open road.

11.9 modded? Or stock, stephen?

If modded, then I think I'll pass up the SL600. I thought the 600 would do that stock...

I've clocked 11.9 in my E55 just on K&N and exhaust. Street tires, as well.

Wow

WOW a decision to buy an R230 (SL600) or stay with a E55 based only on a 1/4 MILE time.

Two totally different cars to me.

Nothing against the E55, but the SL600 is so much more luxurious.

Price point is totally different too.

Yes, yes, OP's internal conflict will be resolved only when he drives the SL600.

Stephen, do you still have the Renntech upgrade?

No, you had 2mph on me.

In any case, I'm not basing my decision just on the 1/4 mile time alone. It's just one of the many factors. I believe tomorrow is the day, if I get it, expect pictures. It is beautiful in person, pictures do not do the car justice.

No, unfortunatly I wasn't on mbworld at the time and I didn't really care to save the slip. Sorry.
