I'm wondering how the new sl63 transmission compares to the new transmission in the new m3.

Looks like dog-poo to me. I wonder how tough it would be to retro-fit the 02-08 front end

Maybe I need to get used to it but I like the current car more. It was immediate for the 230.

Wow, to me, the new 09 SL63 looks the same drunk or sober.

I fear its fouled-up looks are probably not going to grow on me.

Almost looks like they stopped random drug testing of the automotive design team

How can anyone refer to this as ugly? The 55 is beginning to look outdated, especially head on. An ugly girl? No chance. In black I would guess it looks brilliant.

The facelift just came out, you won't see a brand new SL until 2011-2012...

Unhappy

........Wow, I never thought that the SL AMG would disappoint me. I am not happy. The car looked better before...........Maybe I will have to see it in person.

is this a 'facelift'?
when they bought out the e63 the facelift was just very minor details this is quite different. Is this definately not the new model?

It is just a face lift with a new Engine and a kool F1 gearbox

Turn up the volume and check out the exhaust and gear blips

Thanks for that, sounds good.
Daft question, but is it still an automatic?

I'm still not convinced about the 'facelift' v new model, the new C class had the same kind of changes at the front etc and this was the new model, how come when the SL gets the same kind of changes its called a 'facelift'?

The new C Class is all new frame from ground up the the 2009 SL63 is still the R230 with all new engine and F1 Gearbox a first for AMG and MB

the ratio was worse in the w204 forum before the car came out, and if this is even half as much as a 'failure' as that car turned out to be, then mercedes will be very happy. most of the naysayers in that case were people secretly sad that their cars were being usurped by something newer, i think...
anyway, i like this front end a lot, it looks like it wants to beat the ***** out of something. especially the lights... the old ones looked like they came off a w203.

Great logic, guess this means we are all going to love the new 2009 SL even though the pictures show a ugly frontend. Hope you are right but based on the picture . What is that old saying don't believe anything you read and only half of what you see. I read your post but I saw the pictures.

Something on 4 wheels..
Before anybody starts complaining, here's my advice: Never judge a car before seeing it in person.

I don't know why - but that seems to be true especially on MB and BMW - they always look better in person..

+1 .... I remember when the 350/450SL came out in 1972/73 and I hated the look at first but a few years later really liked it.

Of course, I'm not saying that I eventually like everything after a few years.

This is just a facelift, not a new model. IMO, the changes are actually fairly minor except for the front, the sides and the rear are pretty much unchanged. The only thing that is different are the bumpers, headlights, hood, some interior changes, and a few other minor things. The new model should come out in 2011-2012.

same with the w204.. everyone HATED how it looked, predicted a flop, but now they can't get enough of it.
either way, this car will sell. like it or not, people who buy $150,000 cars don't like to be seen in the old model. The current SL is pretty, but it's not a classic (yet?), so as soon as leases are up, why would they not move to the new shape?
but yes, de gustibus non est disputandum, and it's definitely not an easy car to look at! i am partial to how the grill is reminiscent of the old SEC coupes, i really like that..

I bet it would be pretty easy, but very expensive. Hood, headlights, grille and front fascia. Oh, and the side gills. I'm guessing several thousand dollars. Worth every penny in my opinion not to have to look at the abomination that the SL has become.

I've seen lots of comments from others here that say the new design will grow on them. I'm pretty sure it will not grow on me. To this day when I see the trunk lid and the headlights of the 7-series as it was introduced several years back, I still ask myself, "What were they thinking at BMW?" I hope the 6th generation restores the dignity of the SL.
