Yes - Remove the ABS badge on the door by turning (L or R) and removing. THere is a screw behind that - remove the screw. Remove all of the screws holding the aluminum inner door cover. pull the panel up from the bootom and lift.
That should be it..

Yep, and the POS inside door handle pin/lever is pot metal and driven into the splined hole in the handle. Part and retainer is about $20.00 at MB

Yup - I bought two as i know this will happen again...
What a pain in the azz this job is. Especially getting the old one out to replace it...
This is one huge design flaw... Or, revenue generator for MBZ as i am sure there are not many DIY'ers like us...

That's funny! I bought two as well.
From the looks of the door panel they have been in there before to replace it so this is #2 in 27K miles. And the last mechanic/hack took the wood off the door panel (thought he could get the door handle off that way) and broke most of the posts. This I found doing the job, the wood was glued back on the door panel. So ordered a new wood panel and clips to do the job right. What a deal @ only $365.00 ;-)

They call it a spindle. The part number for my car is A 320 766 00 67. I believe the grommet comes with the spindle but you need that as well A 202 997 12 81
Good luck!

No problem! I had the same problem with my dealer so I bought a SDS and now with the EPC and all the stuff the dealer has I check out the machines first, then take them in if I don't feel like doing the job.
(The 55 has warranty so I look at the deductable and the job)
The 230K I most always fix, the last fault was a T-stat. I asked the dealer what it would cost to change...he said "big job" $350-400. "might be a sensor" "we need to scan it first to make sure". I called BS on that one, the T-stat is right next to the oil filter and takes 15 min the change out, part was $27.00.
