Car Whore
in the end theyre in a "1 series" and im in a SL63 AMG... then i spend some money on mods, so its a modded vs modded fight -- and im on top again.
they spend a few thousand on their mods, but only spent $30k on their car.
i adjust the cost of the mods to around $15k for my $160K car... so its a good comparison to mod cost vs car cost... and i now have a supercharged 63 engine.

Sure looks like the 135i drops off around 110+.

If you can get a 135i for $30k($45k car) you should buy two and then sell them to offset the raping you got by purchasing an SL63 for $160k($135k car). I could see you guys whining if it was a Honduh that was easily modded to keep up and/or beat a Benz.........but it was a BMW.
There's always someone faster than you whether they spent $50 or $50,000 modding their car.

There's always someone out there with a faster car.

It's no big deal if it happens to be a chipped BMW 135 rather than, say, a twin turbo Supra.

That is why you should buy an SL600 or SL65. 465lb-ft torque is just not enough for a 4,300lbs car. Tuned 135/335i has that much torque and weighs 1,000lbs less. SL600, on the other hand, has 615lb-ft torque stock, and 800lb-ft torque with a $3,000 ecu tune. IMO you'd have to be crazy to pick a N/A V8 over twin-turbo V12 for around the same money

How much is the retractable hardtop option on the 1 series...oh yeah not available. Nothing like an AMG feel and sound with the top down at 100+. Not interested in 4 seats on the 1 series, 3 series or high reving M3. 6 series is fugly and I got rid of the rattle trap Z4 I had. My .02 cents

20+ to list......
The 135i is at least 1000lbs lighter than the SL63, plus the 6.2L V8 needs to be revved to get the most out of it, so if the driver in the SL dropped another gear, I'm sure the outcome would be different in the rolling start video.

GRANTED at the end of the day he's driving "that" and you're driving an AMG SL...but it says something when something at THAT price range can, with a simple mod, even stay with a car around 3X the price

Sweet videos!~ I hadn't seen those before.

With an intercooler upgrade, some minor exhaust upgrades, and tuning the 135/335's are very quick.

and i will run 8s in a $15k camaro.

your point is...?

if you have a single car- you buy it for the package. if you can afford multiple cars- you buy each one for something specific it does well.

As much of a V12 fan boy that I am, the SL63 is the better overall package with crisper handling and that awesome new MCT gearbox. Straight line power doesn't always sell the car.

As for the race, was the 63 broken in yet? These motors run noticeably harder after several thousand miles on the clock.

how about having a 135i race against a 63 car with evosport long tube headers, exhaust, airbox, pullies so its a modded vs modded race?

There aren't many heavily modded SL63s around yet but the fastest SL55s on Dragtimes are quite a bit faster than any 135 listed on Dragtimes.

That said--and as pointed out above--there's nothing standing in the way of any 135 owner who wants to add enough horsepower to make his car as fast or faster. There's just no avoiding F=MA.

The 135i's are awesome little cars. Great build, good handling, and they are like 40k, not 30k. Little pricey for what they are, but they are cool.

I test drove a 135i convertible the other day, was going to pick it up to have a convertible to use, very quick, even stock.... but it's very odd looking....

I was really looking for the 335i convert, but the dealer didn't have any.... plenty of M3 coupes and sedans though.... guess those are not selling too well....

as for 135i vs sl63, those 135i's can run low 12's with a chip.... so it's not surprising....

Any way you look at it, SL is a boat of a car and will never handle the way a real sports car should. I agree that the MCT tranny is great though... but what is more important: engine or transmission? I say the engine

2 TOTALLY DIFFERENT classes.

135 is a 135 faster or slower whatever. An SL is an SL I would pick an SL550 over a 135 anyday. LOL

I sold my AMG and picked up the 135i. Even though I bought the car for the benefit of the company, it is fun to drive.

With our Stage II 135i software, upgraded IC, Exhaust, and Intake, the car will put down about 400WHP / WTRQ.

The car wasn't meant to compete with the SL and the SL will always be a superior car, so quit with the "It's still a 135" statements.

I picked our shop car up for $33k. It's a 2008 and had 700 miles on it. With about 3-4k in mods, the car will run in the 11's and still get 31MPG.

It handles like a BMW and even though I'm an AMG guy, I have to admit that it is a fun car to drive.

My hats tipped to BMW.

Not a fan of the size or styling but it sure looks like good fun, especially with those numbers

Have you thought about bringing the 135 (and whatever else might be in the company stable) to the November MIR event?
