Haven't looked in detail at this, but I think there's far more to upgrading the COMAND system than buying the new unit and different bits of fake wood. If it were as simple as that, they might well have changed mid model year but as it happened, they did not.

I'm of the understanding that the OEM Burlwood that comes in the 2005 SL55 is not fake wood...

Sure it's the thinnest sliver of wood veneer with layers and layers of lacquer on top, so that's not real wood in my book, not like you see in a Bentley or an Aston Martin. Mercedes do not do wood well and never have - which is why my cars are LFZs - Lumber Free Zones.

OK, time to show off the new 20" wheels... I'll take more pictures in the light...

BTW, the ride is terrific. I thought it would be a big difference between the 18's and the 20's but beside MONSTER grip, the ride is pretty much the same. next step is to lower this baby a little bit.

I have now had my car for one year, and 8,000 miles later, it still looks good on an English Spring morning.

I noticed that the interior of this car is a tan or camel color? What is the official name of the interior color?

It looks great on a black car!

Alpacca Grey Exclusive.

It must be the early morning sunshine that makes it look Tan.

SL55 Wheels

Tony -- Beautiful photo of your SL55 on a lovely Spring day! Did you change out our SL55 AMG wheels for the SL65 wheels? Were you able to find them at a discount and which type of tires do you have on them? Do you change out the tires and wheels to suit weather or track conditions? Thanks!

I think those came straight from the factory as the "F1" package, I think. I was wanting to get those options which included the new front bumper, bigger oil cooler and brakes, etc... Unfortunately, us americans could not put that as options on our sl55's. I think it really stands out! I thought I read somewhere on this site that the front bumper and accessories can be ordered directly from AMG and that it just bolts to us sl55's. Can any body else confirm that?

That is true.

Hopefully the 2006 facelift will have the oil cooler/bumper standard. That is just my wish

My 2005 SL55

My '05 SL55 w/ 20" Brabus Monoblock VI Multipiece (chrome). MBWerks just dropped in the Carlsson lowering module... I know some others have been reporting problems w/ the modules but I've not had a issue at all.

And for good measure my E55 w/ 19" Carlsson 1/16 Ultralights.

Enjoy!

People in general have to start worrying/thinking about what they have. Especially, many people in this forum that own 100K+ automobiles. Its not like we don't know where our next meal is going to come from. Come on guys!

To those that try to justify (for there own good) why someone else has more than they have, I ask you... what good does it do? That's what they have. Just worry about what you have!

Again, sweet cars AMG Girl. Someday, I hope to have half of the collection that you have there. Enjoy it
I jealous ALL of you people for buying such nice cars so cheaply. In my area, you can't even get a S320 will the price of SL55 in North America.

Anyone in my area with a decent living would afford to buy a SL55 in North America, so I am not really surprised that people like AMGgirl has such nice car collections. Gallardo in USA can only get a S500 in my area.

If you guys think owning some of those cars in USA are successful, please go see the outside world.

A Maybach in my area costs USD900,000, I guess that's when you can say someone is successful. People like AMGgirl or blueSL or whoever is really just better than decent.

So you measure the success of someone by the car that they drive?

And you say that anyone one in your area making a decent living could afford a SL55? WHERE DO YOU LIVE because I want to move there! Here we have most of the nation making a decent living (one of the highest standard of livings in the world!) yet very few could afford a SL55.

I dont want 3 Maybacks I want 1! . Where do you live, I cant think of 1 area that has such inflated prices for cars except countries that place 30-50% import fees on cars like Costa Rica.

It is people who say ignorant things like this that make the upper class seem snobby and arrogant and killworthy. MAYBE he is from a middle east oil country. I agree with IanSL55.

The English is so bad that I've re-read the post several times and I still don't understand the point phonetics is trying to make. Whatever it is, I'm not interested.

Just rereading the past few pages and the pissing contest i missed. I couldnt for the life of me see a pic of AMG girl anywhere....even the one where someone mentions she was on the hood of her car or something. Can anyone point me to it cuz im curious as to what a fiance of my old roommate looks like? Maybe she did it to prove she was at least in the vicinity of those cars and they arent a pic from Eminem's house in Detroit.

Below is a brief price list of Mercedes in Hong Kong:

Maybach 62 - USD900,000
SL65 - USD385,000
SL55 - USD282,000
S500 - USD179,000
S320 - USD128,000

I am not saying people with decent living can afford SL55, but if it's selling at the same price as in USA (USD124,000), it will definitely become very common here, like a S320. You ll be surprised to see how many S class in Hong Kong.

The high price is not because of inflation, it's the import tax / automobile registration tax.

By the way, I am sorry about my English.

Well that has nothing to do with people being wealthy, thats just your country being greedy as hell and taxing the **** out of automobiles.
