Final Option Review - Comments on Wheels?
All,
The beast is to start production between 01/20, and 01/31.
Questions:
1) I thought the turbine wheels were standard on the SL55? On my NetStar printout it shows option code 790 "Standard AMG 5-Spoke". Are these the AMG Style III as shown on MBUSA website?
2) Also, when production begins, the dealer should be able to give me an updated NetStar printout with the VIN, etc. correct?
3) The dealer did not give me a choice for the aluminum trim and instead the NetStar printout shows the Black Birdseye Maple.
Here are my choices:
Brilliant Silver / Berry Red / Black Birdseye Maple
- Parktronic
- Pano Roof
- Active Ventilated Seats
- Tire-Pressure Monitoring System
- Bi-Xenons
- Keyless Go
- Navigation Collection

Looks good to me (well, it would wouldn't it!!) Sorry, do not know the answers to the specific questions. I think the black wood is the best one for the Berry Red if you are not having aluminium.

2002 S430, 2001 ML 55, SL 55 on order
Sounds like nice car. here in canada the turbine wheels are standard but it seems from what i have seen that in the USA the 5 spoke AMG wheels are. i have the 5 spokes on my s430 with sport package but want the turbines on my sl55 only so that it looks special over an sl500 with sport pack. both are nice in my opinion.

to me there is no choice, the multi spoke are made specially for the SL55, and the other wheels are on alot of other cars. I think that u should also get the aluminum trim, check out this site posted by another member, lots of pics to help u, over 400 I think

SL55AMG,
This sounds like a fabulous car with the right options!
Also, you'd better like it because this close to the production date (within four weeks), there is nothing you can do to change the options anymore. Sorry
I personally prefer the multispoke wheels myself because they make the car standout from the SL500's. Even if somebody is buying these wheels aftermarket, they'll be still rare
I think the birdseye maple will look beautiful; I got the burlwood with the charcoal/black interior because I was concered with scratching the aluminum and it looks fantastic (was actually much lighter than the burlwood I had on previous SL).
Either way I would have a serious word with your dealer about his omissions/lack of knowledge (proper negotiation may get you a free set of turbine wheels
)

Thanks everyone..
Needless to say, my dealer is a poor one. I called him today to ask him if I could switch the wheels, and he tells me "Ugh, the vehicle started its build on January 7th, I will have to look into it".
Would a good dealer have called to confirm and double-check EVERYTHING before the build started? Last time I spoke to him told me 20th - 31st time frame.
Nice.. If I had not called him...
Another thing that is weird is that the NetStar print out he faxed me for my vehicle looks the SAME as the one he faxed me a month ago. Given the fact that the build has started, I would think the NetStar printout would have more/different data on it?
Also, he was not able to give me a VIN number as he stated one had not been assigned as of yet in NetStar.
I was under the impression that the vehicle is assigned a VIN as soon as the build process starts?
Oh well... If things do not go smoothly, there is always the comment form that comes along with a new Benz purchase![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

You will not get the VIN number until the car is actually getting produced on the line (FYI: The SL55 will be assembled in Bremen and it takes 4 days to do so).
What you should have is a PO Number that tells the status of the car.
Now if you are really curious you could call the factory in Bremen, Germany and talk to Mr. Schueler (in the disposition dept.) 011-49-421-419-5352 (direct dial)and ask him about the status of the car. He will most likely also know when the car goes on the lot to be shipped.
Don't worry about the German, he speaks English

To the best of my knowledge, this form defines how much dealers get as a final margin. This is similar to the American Express model where the incentive is only paid out when you select either the top or the top two satisfaction ratings (don't quite remember). That's why Mercedes is also so adamant to get the survey back from you

multi spoke wheels are a no cost option, accessory code 791.
Aluminum trim is a no cost option also code 739
Mookie,
After looking at the mbusa.com "build your own" page, I thought that the multi-spoke wheels were a $3000 option. Am I incorrect? I hope so!

The multi spokes are a no cost option as a said before, your salesman does not see it because they are a drop down menu on his screen , the choice ishidden unless he is competent with a computer, then you can see that choice. Tell him to wake up, after all he is the salesman.

Multi-spoke wheels definitely are a no-cost option for an SL55 in the US. I ordered my car with them, and the MB printout shows no additonal cost. My car was produced (not shipped) a few weeks ago.
I think the $3,000 number you saw is the cost to order them for another car, as an accessory or the like.

Dear SL55AMG,
IMO nobody could choose better than You wheel or interior colour or something else.
We are talking about "sensations" you feel watching your next car.
Wheel:
I choose my car cause it fit AMG wheel cause I like see the breakes inside the wheel.
Also consider that "ventilated" wheel it's really hard to keep clean.
Exterior colour:
I choose a "obsidian schwartz" cause I don't want more silver car (too much in italy)
Interior:
Graphite nd aluminium
All extra except
- Pano roof (not available)
- Tire-Pressure Monitoring System (probably better cause If You want change wheel measure the system doesn't work)
- Voicetronic (not a problem)
- TV module (unfortunately)
I think that Your car will be perfect only if could be Your car not the forum car.
Don't forget that we're talking about a "wonderful and expensive toy"
Bye
Andrea
It's possible that nobody talk about the terrified seat belt system in SL ? Why MB couldn't fit the CL or CLK "help arm" for seat belt?

Regarding the turbine wheels: I was quite irritated with my salesperson as he did not even offer them to me as an option!!
I think a few of us from the board should open our own MB dealership...lol... we would actually know a thing or two about the vehicles we are selling.

Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure of placing my build order yet as I am pretty far down on the wait list. By my estimation I should take delivery of my SL55 in 2006 or 2007.

Well I am probably exaggerating... a liitle. When I added my name to the list last spring, I was told there is at least a 2 year wait for the SL55. At that time there were more than 60 people ahead of me on the list, and with an allocation of just one or two per month... well, you do the math. There will probably be some people who drop off the list, but there is no way I am anywhere close to getting a 2003 model. Most likely I will get an '04 or an '05. I can't imagine that there would be a major redesign of the SL in such a short period.

I have seen some of those crappy "photoshop'd" images with the SLR nose and can safely say that it will not look like this.
Mercedes usually does not implement significant exterior midlife updates on their cars, especially noton the high-end ones.
I would expect something like the recent CL & S-class updates with small bumper/skirt/headlight (usually low cost, non-metal) updates, including a variety of new technology and safety features and possible engine updates (I heard of the replacement of the 5.o V8 engine).
I wouldn't wait with any order, get a car when you can and have fun
