SL55 VRP........11.38 @ 123.86MPH (Non-NOS)

Had a great time going to this private track rental held by some awesome MB members. It was great meeting some MB members and look forward going to their next private rental at Famoso Raceway. My best run of the day was an 11.38@123.86mph (Non-NOS). I will post the time slips as soon as time allows.

Awesome results! Way to go!

I see there's another Famoso run planned for January. Will you have the VRP cams installed by then?

LOL, no I was on 18's. Although I did make a single pass in Fontana once with those 20's you see there and only one time since I had no helmet

I was running 18x8 with 255/40/18 front and 18X9.5 with 295/35/18 BF Drag Tires rear.

I got from a member on this site. His name is Patrick, he is a stand up guy. You can do search under his screen name PTE.

Edit: Yes to answer your question, it does lower the temp. PTE will be better suited to answer your question more in detail.

Hopefully, but after doing some hard runs the 11.38 & 11.42, my ABC was going crazy and that roll bar that we have in case of an accident keep on poping up during my luanch and scared the sheet out of me every time. So I gotta do somehting with the ABC going crazy and flashing red lights at me. Has this ever happend to you?

Blackbenz: 10's is my target, how I plan to get there is in the works as we speak. I know I have plenty of room to work with, and guess we will see. I had no intentions on modding some more, but after seeing what my car was running has now open a new can worms for me. Only time will tell. Congrats on your ET times....Very impressive.

...
Yes, I've run into both issues. I now raise the roll bar in advance. At least I do if I remember.

As far as the ABC warning goes, I sometimes get a little axle hop at launch and could imagine that causes the ABC system to scramble as it tries to keep up with the axle movement. If you listen to the audio on this video clip, you can hear the axle hop on either my car or Blackbenz's: http://vimeo.com/2334101. On this run in particular the ABC warning message displayed, so my guess is that it's my axle hop and the hop triggered the ABC warning.

Cool, good luck! Do you plan on running tens without nitrous? Thanks, I dunno if I'm going to be tracking my car any time soon or ever again.

Hey Vadim,

Really want to say thanks to you and your team over at your office. You guys really know what you are doing, I had no idea you were this good. Im getting a lot of power from your tune and I can imagine a lot is coming from the custom long tubes headers you built for me along with you X-Pipes. Those long tubes are really one of a kind.

I will call you later on today so we can go over some of the mods I have in mind. Lets get this SL into the 10's!

Yes, my plans are without nitrous. You have to be kidding about not running again. Are you referring to not running the CLK and starting a new project? Or you are not going to hit track at all?

That would be awesome! The SL is one of my favorite mercedes body styles. I will continue to go to the track, just not run my car. I may change my mind in the spring but I'm tired of snappin axles at the track. I haevnt even been able to make a clean pass on nitrous! I'm sure it will go tens as it sits off spray. Maybe one day I will miss he track too much and go for the mercedes record by shedding weight, race gas tune, and forged axles

Your car moves out man.. very clean launch. nexttime we do this we will deep stage you , get that trap speed up even more.

We are all very impressed with your car and your driving. Great job , and thanks for the seat help. I look forward to helping you tick down although you likely need to lose 200-300 lbs to get in the 10's here. Or add 75-100 hp and lose 75 lbs.

Replace your batteries or at leastthat huge one,

www.voltphreaks.com

Talk to Tony and tell him Juicee63 with the CLS 63 AMG sent you. The new generation batteries are as light as 3 lbs and have more safety and efficiency features. You can use this battery everyday go with the 900 or 1200

Sal, thanks for that amazing run man . West Coast now holds the record for the quickest/fastest SL55 . You even ran slightly faster than the one that ran at MIR @ -2050 ft DA Your run was at about +400 ft. Your car definitely has more potential. This time around, we'll have a lot more traction and more extreme track prep.

Your car WILL go low 11s

Well, I happen to be the guy who ran the 11.4 at MIR. I've already praised Sal publicly and privately for his setup and record setting run. I think he's done a great job and if my car never, ever posts a better 1/4 mile than his, I'm okay with that.

But if you want to compare his runs to mine:
  1. The DA on my best run was -1,267, not -2,050 (see http://www.dragtimes.com/Mercedes-Be...lip-13186.html). The DA was lower earlier in the day but the runs were slower because the track was cold.
  2. I ran street tires while Sal ran drag radials.
  3. I had a weekend's worth of luggage in my trunk--MIR is 500 miles from Ann Arbor and I drove back and forth--while Sal's trunk was empty plus he removed his passenger seat.
So while I'm very happy for Sal and don't begrudge him holding the record, I'm also pleased with how my car is running right now.

Sal, if you want to run head-to-head I'd be glad to meet you halfway in Amarillo with the loser buying steaks at the Big Texan. In the meanwhile, here's hoping you post some awesome times at Famoso in January!

Yor car is fast! I know because you shocked the hell out of me the first time we ran and YOU BEAT ME! And you were even on street tires too! I had no idea you had luggage in the trunk, that makes it even more impressive!!! Don't forget your record run was also done on a hot lap if I remember correctly. We ran twice back to back with absolutey no cool down

Should make for an interesting race if racing variables are equal

I have the same set up plus the VRP cams and the new pulley. I don't have the tune but will have it before this Spring. Am hoping for real low 11's or high 10's. Problem is--I don't know how to drive as well as jmf003 so I'll have to practice some or get someone to drive for me. I have a vision problem. Meanwhile I hope someone gets in the 10's soon. Great going you guys!!
