I have been looking for a set of 18" split spoke wheels for my 03 SL55 and have not been able to find any. I have found several sets from CLS550's, but the offset is 5mm different. What problems, if any, would it cause if these were put on an SL?

Thanks

I put a set of 18" CLS 18" wheels on my 05 SL55 without any issue. If you look at the wheel chart in the owner's manual you well see looks of different offsets for an SL. 5mm is is less than 1/4".

CLS wheels fit the SL just fine despite the offset difference. Just with the 10J wide rear wheels (only Style IV two piece 19") AMG requires fender rolling.

I know cause I have em.

Style 3: 8.5J and 9.5J (winter wheels)

Style IV: 8.5J and 10J

Sprins - Thanks for the reply. Are your winter wheels 18" or 19", and what did they come off of?

19" winter & summer.

I bought them new to upgrade from my 18" stock SL55 AMG wheels.

I attached the AMG brochure PDF with the part numbers.

Summer of 2007, I bought EXACTLY that set, from the same dealer for my old 2004 SL600!
They fit perfectly, and don't require any spacers!
(See my photos.)
And the guy working there, Bob, is very helpful and polite!

I highly recommend them!

I sold that car back in october 2007.
But since I was sooo pleased with their look, I bought another set from eurowheelsusa, that I have in stock for "future projects"..!

And the reason why I don't have them on the car I have today, is because it's a Carlsson, and therefor Carlsson rims is the only way to go (my opinion)!
However, I like the looks of the "AMG style" better...

As a matter of fact, NO they don't..!
I was actually suprised to see, after a summer, that they still were nice & round!
So these have good quality.

Otherwise, I get your point there.
Most copies are terrible when it comes to potholes...

Don't go stock, Get something that gives the car a wider yet classic stance.

THE 19 INCH TWO PIECE WHEELS ARE DEFINITELY PRONE TO BENDING!
I HAD 2 OF THE ORIGINAL WHEELS ON MY SL65 THAT WERE BENT! THE CAR NEVER HIT ANYTHING AND IS PERFECT! THE RIGHT REAR ON THE INSIDE WITH NO APPARENT CONTACT DAMAGE BUT HAD A HUGE FLAT SPOT. THE FRONT WHEEL ALSO HAD INSIDE DAMAGE WITH NO EVIDENCE OF CONTACT DAMAGE.

THEN I BOUGHT ANOTHER SET THAT LOOKED PERFECT AND TWO WERE ALSO BENT. AGAIN ONLY ON THE INSIDE..

What tire and tire size did you use?

Will the CLS AMG type IV with an offset of et25 front and et28 rear fit an SL55?

Will this offset make the wheels stick out more or be set in more?

Did MB ever make these in 18's?

The higher the (positive) offset the more "set-in" the wheels are.
So if the original wheel is ET35, and the new wheel is ET25, then the new wheel will sit further out by 10 mm, and appear more flush with the fender, with the risk,of course, of hitting the fender and wheel well.
ET stands for Einpress Tiefe, German for offset.
