Cold start question for 2005 SL55

Is it normal for the dash to read Convenience functions temporarily unavailable until the car warms up?
It usually takes about 5 minutes before it starts working when it is cold out.
I just wondered if this was normal or if there may be a problem somewhere. Even the seat heater flashes until it starts working. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like you have a rear battery on the fritz.

yup, might wanna swing by the dealer and have them run a volt test on your battery.

Yup. I just had the same problem about 3 weeks ago... just when it started getting really cold. You need to get your battery replaced.

Thank you for all the replies.
Does the rear battery control anything else?
It isn't used for the starter, is it?

How to replace both batteries on the 2005 SL55

I have seen several forums about this, but I wanted to know if anyone had a step by step procedure to replace both batteries and still maintain the memories without having to reset anything.
I have heard talk of hooking a charger to it or something.
Do you just hook a charger to it while it is connected, leave it connected to the wires and swap the batteries out. Am I missing anything?

Does anyone know the cost of having MB Roadside assistance doing it if you are out of warranty?
Do you get free MB Roadside assistance if you don't have TeleAid service?

Thanks in advance for all of the input.

Candidly, I had the dealer replace mine. Cheap? Nope. Did I have to f*** with it? Nope.

These cars are far too complex, electrics included, to half *** it if you don't know what your doing. You may, I did not. I understand that the COMAND gateway is easily torched if your not careful, so...I let the dealer do it...

If it's not too far gone....

best thing to do, like most German cars, is drive it. Too many things happen when they sit.
