SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL55 Flabbergasted
introduced in the UK.
I went on line to get a valuation, and it said introduced in 2002 with 476bhp
and upgraded to 508bhp in late 2003.
What!!!! I thought it had 500, so I looked in my handbook, it says 476:

I am devastated, I know it's only 30bhp, but people pay good money for this type
of increase.
I am definitely going to change for a 2004 or 2005 depends on the money.
How many of you with early models think you got 500 gg's, check in your handbook.
at introduction mercedes underrated the car at 476 then when few of them hit the dyno and the 500+ truth came out merc decided to do a recall to reflash the cars (among other things) back to 476hp. when the recall caught publicity merc dropped it and instead just "rebadged" the following year cars to 500hp ...

I don't think you should be devastated, it is easy fit the car with upgrades that will allow you easily exceed 500hp.

It was just a shock to see in my handbook that it said 476bhp.
Your right I can have it tuned, an extra 50bhp is going to cost a couple of grand which I don't have spare at present. My car also has a noise from the fuel tank, a rushing noise
which could be the pump or a tank baffle, either will be expensive.
PS DMS UK do that 50bhp upgrade for under a grand...if your trade alot less!
The only real way to know the truth is to put it on a rolling road and check.
Quite a few owners of e55k's whose engines are rated at 476bhp report that they make more than this when put on the rollers often over 490bhp.
Remember these engines are handbuilt so there will be differences from car to car.
If you want to go faster the DMS upgrade sounds good and is something Iam seriously considering.

so I can check how many gg's I have.
What about de-limiting, someone said this also gives a few more horses.
DMS quoted me 2 grand for a 50bhp upgrade.
