SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: If you haven't got your resonators delete...
A couple of other quick questions to those who have done this to their SL55. Is there any drone in the cabin and if so, is it at high or low speeds(or both)? Also, I've read conflicting opinions that removing the resonators will result in a slight loss of low end torque. Is this true and if so, is it enough to even be noticeable? I can't imagine removing the resonators would have that much impact on torque, but I'd definitely like to hear opinions from those who have done it. Thanks again!!!

I haven't deleted my resonator yet, but will be shortly, so I can't comment on the drone.
Anytime you open up the exhaust, you will lose back-pressure. This will normally result in a slight loss of low end torque, but should also give you a few extra HP high up in the RPM range. Honestly, you probably won't notice the lost torque or gained HP.

Have you experienced any drone or does it sound good in the cabin at both high and low speeds?
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

How much of skill would it be someone whos never done such a job, maybe a few, and especially on no AMG?
As for the skill required to do this job, any capable muffler shop should be able to do it, but I had a trusted mechanic that works on all my cars do it for me. The total job took right around an hour and was probably the simplest task that could ever be done on an AMG.
anyways, a good way to test this would be for Brent72 to reset his MPG indicator, and report back after a few days/weeks/months/etc.
that'll give everyone a good before and after reading

When I start driving a little more civilized I'll reset the fuel indicator and see what kind of mileage I'm getting.
Just got mines done today and theres a noticable difference. I was considering buying a new exhaust, but after hearing this, I changed my mind.
Gives it a more deeper growl - about 30-40% louder. Makes me wonder why didn't it sound like that stock!
Heres a sample vid of it

That's nearly as good as a SL63, not as tuneful though, still an improvement
I guess.

I did once have a guy comment about the screaming SC. He was driving an earlier 2000 and something Corvette ZO6 and we had a little run at a light. I ate him up. He tried again while rolling at about 30 which I presumed was a sweet spot for him because he picked it. The results were the same. He then pulled up next to me and asked me if I had a blower.
Also, how can they weld the top of the slip on pipes if the exhaust is still installed on the car? There would be leaks....

With headers, no pop and no drone;

The diagram shows
No 159 Center Mufflers
and
No 160 Rear Mufflers
Can someone who had the job done please comment on the following questions:
Are the rears considered resonators or also the center ones?
Which ones are removed when talking about "deleting resonators"?
Does the exhaust system have to be dropped to weld in the straight pipe or is there enough room on top to insure a perfectly closed weld all around?
Is there a preferred kind of pipe to be used for this job?
My car has a Stage 6 RennTeck package which includes the RennTech headers.
Thanks
