AMG STEERING WHEELS WITH SWITCHES AND PADDLES!

I have both type of AMG steering wheels one of the early type 2003-2006 with switches and 2 later types with the paddles.. Who does the conversion on the switches? Someone else also used to sell just the paddles to add to the switches.

Any info appreciated

Steering wheel paddles

Hi, I'm a newbie and I live in Belgium.
What concerns the steering wheel to the early sl55's, I can tell you this :
I bought a new wheel AMG F1 type on ebay . I paid 500 eur for it ,gave it to my MB tech and they made it work ! So it can be done. My sl55 is a 2003, one of the first in europe, it had the performance pack and steering wheel with the shifter buttons. The MB tech told me he took everything out of the new wheel and didn't use any of the wiring that came with it. Then he took out the buttons of the old steering wheel, kept the electroswitch and added the paddles to the old electroswitches. Everything mounted in perfectly and the wheel feels great. I also added the power convertor to it and the switching time is very short now. The convertor is also adjustable . The only thing you need is a MB tech who WANTS to do it. I know a lot of them won't .

On this link you can find the instruction how to do it, then it's up to you to do it yourself or hand over the instruction to someone more handy.

I went to mercedes, and got the paddles, did the internal swap, took about 30 minutes, pretty easy to do. Taking apart, dremeling and reassembling is the easy part the hard part where i havent done anything yet is that:
1. The e63 paddles are alot smaller cut out then my sl55 buttons. I will have to use my old button outer plastic and cut it to fit over the bigger hole. Or fill it some how.
2. Our old buttons were just snapped in place, the new paddles requires us to drill a hole into out steering wheels to use a screw to hold it in place.
So trust me, even when u get the paddles working the hard part is mounting them back on... this is a task i didnt finish yet.

Thanks for the link. I think the SL55 wheel is different than the one he is referring too in the link above. BUT....it does give a good starting point.

"The e63 paddles are alot smaller cut out then my sl55 buttons" "trust me, even when u get the paddles working the hard part is mounting them back on... this is a task i didnt finish yet. "

I bought a couple of wheels to tear apart and experiment with. The mod I'm doing uses the late "NO" switch paddles and converts them to the 03-05 type electronics and harness. Finding the PC switches is the hangup, the surface mount components are not a problem and easy for us to do since the shop does this stuff everyday.

I'll post the results in the next couple of weeks when we get the system perfected.
