I am having problems already!!!!
I picked up my SL55 today and i have 60 miles on it. As soon as i got home a red message started flashing, it said:
WARNING:Brake Failure
Visit Workshop
I have heard that the brakes on the new SL have had some problems but i thought they would be fixed by now.
Im calling the service dept. tomarrow and i will keep yall posted.

I had the same problem at 250 miles. It's fixed now but it took six weeks to sort out. If your brakes seem to be pulling the car to one side or another beware, as your system is on "Default" mode which is workable but dangerous. If the problem persists email me at ja1031@ aol.com.

Increased braking distance...take to workshop
BTW the car does not go side to side but does make a small noise coming from the brakes that sounds a little like ABS when slowing down.
So its NOT safe to drive the car with this message flashing or is this some kind of fuse failure?

If the warning message is in red lights (not blue) I was told to immediately have the car towed to the shop, which I did. I never saw an "increased braking distance" warning, but I asume that you are now on the "backup" or "default mode". This mode only operates the front brakes (so I'm told) and although you can stop the car in this mode it can be extremely dangerous if you really need to stop quickly. My car showed Fault C233D and the hydraulic unit was replaced. Then it showed Fault C2534, a faulty valve in the hydraulic unit?? The final fix was the original hydraulic unit and a new brake operating unit. The electro hydraulic braking systems on these cars are new technology for most mechanics and diagnosing problems may be a mystery for some of them. Have your dealer call the TAC line and talk to Chip Saunders. If your problem is like mine, Chip is aware of it and will have more knowledge of the probable cause than I do. I wish you luck, it's a real heartbreaker to have such a wonderful new car... in the shop.
