SL 55 or 63
It's strange that most members seem to prefer the 55 over the 63.
Why the do 55 owners want their cars to look like 63's and sound like 63's
and of course carbon bits.
Let's face it the 55 is dead ,long live the 63.

The 55 is better looking with a better engine. That's enough for me!

Come on, Grow Up, this thread is for discussion, not for bashing, I had both
and they both have their good/bad points.
In fact the SL63 has come in for a lot of bashing, I was merely asking members especially SL55 what they like about the 63, as they seem to want
certain aspects of a 63 which a 55 wont give, it just sounds hypocritical
to bash a 63 yet secretly like a lot about it. Personally I can't think of anything I prefer on a 55 to my 63, the engines are different but they are
about even for speed.
Comments please, not controversy.

I can think of two things specifically and I mentioned them in my above post. I heavily prefer the supercharged 5.5 with its' massive torque to the normally aspirated 6.2 engine. I also think the 55 is a much more beautiful car and will go down as one of Mercedes' most beautiful designs of all-time. The "facelifted" 63 does not appeal to me in any way, shape or form. The only things I prefer about the 63 are the new transmission, updated COMAND system and exhaust note. Those things, however, are not enough to convince me to trade in my 55 for a 63. To each their own.

55 since I can't afford a 63 yet. lol j/k. i've always had turbocharged cars... need boost. 63's are gorgeous, but so is the 55... they are so different to me in design that they just seem like 2 entirely different cars to me in the style department. Being a designer makes you scrutinize things such as these.

Hi all, that's the response I wanted.
To me the SL55 is a pretty car, the 63 ugly yet brutal and aggressive.
I stand by my words and that is there is nothing in it performance wise,
but the 55 is no different from sport auto to buttons, the 63 is only as quick when you use manual mode. Of course the 55 is much easier to tune.
I am talking stock cars, maybe a long journey is better in the 55 but without
doubt the tranny and noise make the 63 far more entertaining, in my opinion.
I guess 55 lovers just want a bit of 63.

I love my 55 and even if I had the cash, I would never trade it for a 63.
25 years from now, you'll see why ! Just keep it in good condition.

Back from your self-imposed ban and here making friends again I see Sound8
hovyamg- yes, it's been unreliable. Now MB owners can appreciate what BMW was doing with SMG...specialist gear boxes take time to perfect.

Seems I touched a nerve with 55 owners, and all I have done is state facts.
The 55 is dead, they stopped making them 2 years ago, or was you thinking
I meant something else! Try not to take my remarks as criticism, they are
just things said by members that indicate a preference.
Cool down, have a beer.

looks like sound8 back at it again...you'll always prefer your 63 over the 55 and if that's what you need is self justification then it's fine; but many of us like our 55s so let that be that...at the end of the day who cares so long as the owner is happy with their car(s)...
all this said...the 55 is still better
