SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Tire Pressure Monitoring End of Life
Been getting a warning message about the tire pressure monitoring even though the pressures displayed are correct.
The dealer says the batteries in the sensors in the wheels are failing and I need new sensors, $800 for a set fitted.
I'm wondering if anyone else here is seeing the same problem?
Apart from the "drive to shop" failure, this sounds exactly like the symptoms you are having. Now, this doesn't mean your censor batteries are dead, only that it could be something else.
The diagnostics for this thing seem quite poor and it would not be good to get the sensors replaced outside the dealership if the problem then turned out to be the control unit.

it was replaced under CPO. Here's the line item from the invoice:
Performed SDS Test, found fault code B1349-001 (Check all wheel sensors). Checked battery life on all TPM sensors, all have more than 6 months battery life. Replaced TPM control module, performed programming, & cleared codes.
part number appears to be 002-540-75-45, description is "switch", and cost shown is 0.00
I understand the control unit predicts the remaining battery life and the recommendation is to replace the sensors if the remaining battery life is 6 months or less. Mine are all showing less than that. There's evidently a number of different error codes and, like you, I'm getting the "Check all wheel sensors" code in addition to specific failure codes.
I'm convinced this car is going to be a nightmare as the electronics age and we (collectively) get more gremlins. I'm sure most R230s will go to the scrap yard long before they are mechanically worn out.
I've decided to have the work done and just hope the control unit is not shot as well.

I have no idea if it works, but if it does it's a HUGE savings

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I believe the tire rack price was $97 ea and the valve stem kit was about $12ea. If you don't need stems the saves a few bucks.

Still, $500 plus tire shop install fee is much less than $800 at the dealer. You should have enough left to buy some AMG valve stem caps
I just ordered another set for $384.06 (sensors and stems) shipped. They will ship to the UK. If you talk to Todd 574.287.2345 x673 he can fix you up.
