i would recommend getting a valentine 1 radar detector, get a laser interceptor quad laser jammer which will put 2 heads front and back to jam laser and a cheetah gps to update all cameras and limit in town chatter on the detector, this is pretty much the maximum set-up though there are cheaper alternatives, great radar detector forums you can research on

Another suggestion...Passport 9500ci w/ laser interceptor jammers...
I have the 9500ix and love it...I still have to get the laser interceptor jammers, though.

I use a battery operated Passport Solo 2 because I can transfer it between cars and it does not require permanent installation. Radar detectors are illegal in VA so I only use it on the freeway in unpopulated areas. A lot of law enforcement vehicles in VA are equipped with radar/laser detectors. If they find one in your car it will be confiscated and you will be ticketed. For the most part I've found the Solo to be totally useless due to too many false activations, especially in urban areas where traffic light timing can be electronically overridden by fire, EMS and law enforcement vehicles. Go with the Valentine.

I love my V1, and had my tech...
fix the direct wire kit up so it's almost unseen at the top of my windshield, by the mirror. None of them are absolutely foolproof, but the V1 arrows really help.

Why would anyone buy any other detector over the V1?
Once you live with the directional arrows you can NEVER go back. It's like living in the stone age not knowing where the radar is coming from.

my wife wild, but she loves every minute of it.
I agree. I have a modified remote display that uses different colors for each band. I find my peripheral vision picks up the color and helps with a quick determination of the threat.

Yes the Valentine 1 is nice, but what I need is a system built into my car for concealment, something that has a heads up display tied into my dash and is protected from radar detector detectors that the police are equipped with. I live in Virginia and would like to use it all of the time.
Midcityengineeing might be able to do a cluster interface for you for the 9500ci
what I would like to know and seriously from people who actually have half a brain, is the arrows on the V1... I just used a V1 last week, and my thoughts on it weren't positive... I had a long drive and thought about why the arrows and came up with the conclusion that since it is always false'ing you need to verify if something is in front of you.
Now I come from the K40 school, which is a great system if it works all the time, thankfully it has been upgraded to a wired calibre system which you would know if there was a problem, before that you never knew... I like the single hidden LED or 2 if you got front and rear radar units. I actually tested the K40 out 2 weeks ago with the wired unit... I felt better driving with it that is for sure than the previous wireless version, detection is about on par with the 9500ci.
the 9500ci is very cool, definitely the radar detector of radar detectors, I love the GPS feature, very cool... but when comparing it with the K40 unit, in a known false area, I couldn't get it to pick up because I was under 20mph... which was weird, and took some getting used to, over all pretty badarse!
Note: I will take the laser defuser from K40 over the passports any day.
so if I were to choose from experience alone between the 3
1-9500ci
2-K40 (non wireless calibre version only)
3-V1
I just hate the V1 falsing at everything, and seriously when I was driving, and I do push the envelope sometimes... I just couldn't get into a grove with the V1
Also I got to drive an 09 CLS with the 9500ci and midcity cluster interface... very cool, I would love for it to do more, but I am picky...

I recommend the Passport SRX/9500 series.
I have had many. Here is my experience for u to consider.
First, I am going to assume that your budget is in line with your car.
Detection and false alarms are not the priority. While your higher priced brands do have an edge in these areas based on the many comparison tests (do your own research), keep in mind your number one priority is effective laser shifting (jamming). Most cops are using lasers because they are not usually detected by driver detection devices, unless aimed at that vehicle and by that time it’s too late. With radar, the "whole world" is alerted to a potential cop in the area.
Considering the risks, invest in a PROFESSIONALLY installed system that has a laser shifter OUTSIDE THE CAR (remote system).
Case-in-point:
Officers are trained to aim the laser (infrared) at the front license plate. Not your dash or mirror where most non-remote detectors sit. Good chance your laser detector will never "see it" unless cop has a shaky hand and elevates the beam to your dash. Not a risk worth saving a few hundred bucks over
Laser beams from an officers laser gun at 1000 feet expands to 2 feet only unlike a radar beam which blanket an area the size of the Atlantic. Think of a radar beam as a cone - narrow at the radar antenna and widening as it heads for the horizon. Even the narrowest of radar beams - 11 degrees - is 38 feet wide when 200 feet down the road and 57 feet wide at 300 feet away. Some radar units transmit a beam as wide as 24 degrees. By the time a radar beam is several hundred feet from a patrol car, the microwaves are blanketing an area as wide as an expressway.
In fact that’s one of reasons radar is going the way of the dinosaurs for departments that can afford to replace it. It often can be challenged in court by the well-to-do who can afford a “clever” attorney.
Make your decision wisely if you have a heavy a foot. My choice has saved me many-a-headaches, including at least 3 times in the last year, were the officer was aiming directly at me. The shifters in the front “saved” the day with the exception of my near heart attacks each time.
