SL55 AMG Wheel Thread

Just bought and received my 2006 SL55 AMG - Silver (will post pictures soon). Before I make an expensive mistake and spend a lot of money on wheels, I'd like to as the forum for some feedback on which wheels to choose. I am seriously considering the MAYA MRS 20" wheels (as shown below) 20x11 on back and 20x9 on fronts (chrome). This will set me back $3500 but it includes tires.

Any other suggestions out there? Let's start a sticky SL5x SL6x wheels thread here!

Thanks all.

What is the recommended width AND offset for the SL?
9" +? or 9.5 +? front
10x.5 +? or 11+? rear

When i get my aftermarket wheels, I want them flush with the fender and a slight stretch on the tire for aggressive fitment.

General concensus is ..

20 x 9.5- 255/30 front
20 x 11- 305/25 rear

Alot of diff. configs will work but this is the "standard" that most go with when building custom wheels.

IMHO the best rims are the standard 19" 5-Spoke AMG Rims. Many try to go all out fancy with their rims, pay around ~$5K for them, only to look "different", not better than the SL55 stock rims. If you insist on getting rims, be careful b/c you could easily screw up a good looking car IE Lowenhart Rims.

Offset is as critical to know as width. If you don't know the offset you don't know if the wheel will fit. It's a given, you'll need to know your stock wheel's offset to start. As a general rule, the higher the offset number the further inward the wheel will sit compared to stock. Conversely, the higher the offset number the more the wheel will stick out compared to stock. Here is a website to check and see if wheels will fit. You will need to know the stock offset, the stock width and the offset of the wheel you're considering and the width of the wheel you're considering.

I went with AMG 19' FA 8.5-255/35 and RA 9.5-285/30. Offset is 25 and 31 mm I think. Bought at stealership. Happy with them. Would like "m to come out a little more, for better looks.

Sorry for the crappy pics..

on a car as nice as a sl55, it MY OPINION that anything less than a multi piece wheel isnt right, its just going cheap. plus you arent going to get a 20x11 wheel in 1 piece.

i got 20x9 and 20x11 am forged primes.
http://www.amforged.com/gallery/sl/index.html

and 305/25/20 and 285/35/20 nitto invo's tires

Asanti Wheels

I personally went with a 20X10 and 20X9.5 with 305 25 20 and 255 30 20 mich ps2 . I went with them because they are custom made, quality wheel. I have read that some figure theses to be more pricey but to each his own.
Sorry I don't know how to post a pic of my ride with this post, but it is part of my album.

Not necessarily true, HRE makes 1 piece Monoblok's in 20X11 for the SL55 and they are not cheap.

Finally got my Claus Ettensberger c725 rims mounted with Pirelli's... then get her lowered a bit (decided to just use lowering links). She rides a little bit harsher then with the stock 18's, but that was expected. I use the stock setting for around town, and height setting 1 for when I know the highway I'm on is a bit bumpy. Height setting 2 when going over speed bumps, or going in and out of steep entrances.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. My signature finally shows the final setup.

The exeption that proves the rule! nice wheels, but that much money for a one piece wheel isnt right, it cost them $100 to make that wheel in 1 piece.
