I'm really not sure....
what I need. I just know mine is all red, and would look betterin clear or black. My is an 06 %%, so it has black taillights. Anybody got a picture handy?

I changed mine as well. It can be done for any 230 SL. I tried to upload a picture but it will not allow me to do so. Do a search in this forum for Performance Package Front End. I have posted various pictures of my SL in the thread dated 4-23-09 and one shows the third brake light.

In the picture it looks very clear but there is a hint of smoked to it. The light is the stock MB 20077 SL55 light.

If you''ll just click over to R230 SL thread...
it's very fresh. Got it at the MB dealer, have already thrown the PN away, but it's clear in the thread A230xxxxx. List price is about $250.

In case anyone is interested on how it's done, I'll give it a try.
1. Open trunk, remove the sill plate rivets, sill plate and pull the liner loose close trunk.
2. Open top to get lid open from the front, (leave top down), remove the two plastic rivets (under the flap that is now open). pop the rest of the clips loose and remove the liner, close top.
3. Open trunk and remove two Torq screws from flap motor and swing down.
4. Remove the two 10mm nuts on the lamp retainer, dont drop the nuts into the lid shell.
5. Push out on the lamp while cutting the sealant around the lamp and pull lamp away fron lid, remove connector when lamp assy free.
6. Clean old sealant from lid, I used (Acrylic enamel reducer because it was handy)
7. Fit connector and install new lamp assy in trunk lid, align retainer and push onto lamp, tighten the two 10mm nuts, reinstall flap motor and test light. Close trunk.
8. Open top and reinstall liner then close top, open trunk finish clipping the liner and reinstall sill plate.
9. Done, my time was about 30 min.
Now go wow your friends with your 09 SL63 rear light!

Nope, sorry I didn't take pictures. The only pain in the rear is getting the liner out because of the flipping of the trunk lid back and forth to get the damn thing out and back in. All the rest is self evident once the liner is out.

Hmmm, you got me thinking...maybe I should take the car apart, take pictures and put it all on a DVD. Oh, I remember now, it's already on the digital manual for $6 on Egay ;-)
