Need some help buying a sl55

Okay,
I am looking at a bunch of cars right now and i really like the SL. I would love to have a sl55, from what i hear the 55 has more power to throw you back in you seat and i like that. so my questions are as follows...

1) what is a good year (problem free) i know some 03's have problems but what would be a safe bet.

2) for the year that you guys recommend what would be a fair price to pay ?

3) how hard is it to find black/Barry combo ?

i would be getting an extended warranty probably from chrysler but i don't want to buy a car that has 80k miles on it and looks all beat up. i would guess that some where in the 30k range would be considered low miles for this car....also would like keyless go and pano roof with xeons

plz guys give me the knowledge.

I bought an '04 and am happy with... I think '05 and later have a better GPS system, but I use the GPS on my phone anyway. I love this car, the engine and suspension are very impressive, and who doesn't like the retractable hard top.

Depending on where you live, I think mid to upper 30's is the ballpark. '05 and later probably in the 40's.

I think it's wise to get an extended warranty... just for the peace of mind. So many mechanicals and electricals on these cars, it's tough to fix things yourself. And dealers aren't cheap, but with an extended warranty you don't have to constantly worry about it.

have fun shopping, it's a buyers market!!

I'd saw '05 or better.

If you are going to race it, find a stripper that has been modified already.

If you are going to drive it, Get one with the lowest miles and most options as possible. Dynamic seats and Pano roof were the only options I didn't care that much about.

Good luck!

as far as performance maybe a resonator delete, lower about an inch + add wheels and possibly a ecu tune.

other modifications i would like to do is a full stereo upgrade, change out the steering wheel to one that i seen one of the member's do ( i believe it was a clk black with some carbon ) super nice!

I had an 02 reg SL55. It did have a lot of problems and was costing a fortune
after my warranty ran out. I part ex-ed it because it needed 3 grand to put
it right. I would go for a minimum 04 and you must have a pano roof.

How much horsepower do you want. My 07 has 510 HP.
If you want more why not go for an SL65?

They are great cars. Like any other car get a good mechanic or even a dealer to check it out. If you can get a warranty ,the repair costs can be a bit much.
I do however love mine and wont be parting with it anytime soon.
Good luck and enjoys
