SL55/63/65/R230 AMG Oil Consumption?

'06 SL65

Oil Consumption?

I did some searching on this forum and haven't really found much information on this topic. Some of the posts were back when the cars were fairly new. I would like some new data that reflects how these cars are doing on oil consumption after they have had some miles put on them.

My car has about 7000 miles on the oil change and its about 2 qts low on oil. I would like to know what you guys have been experiencing as the norm here for the V12TT cars....

I have been around cars long enough to know that Turbocharged cars due burn some oil.... and that varies quite a bit.

There's nothing more aggravating to me then a car that burns or leaks oil.

Keep a quart handy. I go through a quart a month or so.

I have almost 20k on my car and it's never needed oil. My car is not the norm, with most V12s needing a quart every 3k miles.

My car has 40K and uses a quart about every 5 thousand. Be glad it's not a older 911. :-)
A 600hp turbo charged car is probably going to use some oil. If you flog it alot it will probably use more. The rear tire bill will be worse than the oil bill. :-)

Mercedes and AMG cars typically have very little oil consumption. In 100k miles in 3 AMG cars I never had to top off outside of regular oil changes. Can't say the same thing for those BMW M series, they consume one quart for every 2-3k miles, they are thirsty.

the factory guideline is 1 qt every 1000 miles.

anything less than that is considered "normal" and no corrective action is taken.

is 1 quart in 1000 miles normal in my mind? no. more like a quart every few 5-7k miles for the v12tt... but... thats what it is...

A quart every 2500 miles is about what my 65 consumes. Where is Precision Engine btw? I'm in Chicago too.

2005 SL-65 2002 M3

My SL65 used 1qt at 2k. I asked the dealer if that was normal and got the same response that alx said. 1qt per 1k is normal. My M3 uses 1qt every 6k and it sees 8k rpms daily.
