replacement filters

I have been reading up on what mods most people do to their sl600 and sl65, and it appears that most go with K&N but I have always leaned towards the dry material filters like AEM dryflow on previous cars. Are there any other alternatives that filter well and are high performance? I noticed that VRP had a custom intake setup they dubbed the scorpion that could use any conical style filter. Let me know your thoughts on filters or any previous experience.

I had a good improvement fitting K&N to my SL63, even though they may cause a problem later with my AFM.

Check this out:

looking back at the pics...it seems like the air is running through only a small area of the stock filter. If you look at the front edge of the stock filter, you can see that dirty area where the air is coming into the air box from the intake tube. It looks as if the air is being channeled into a very small area of the fliter. If you see how much "thinner" the BMC air filter is...I can imagine more air coming into the air box before shooting up through the filter and arching into the back hole into the manifold.

looking at that the ideal to maintain a dry filter and minimize obstruction you would have to create some sort of cable driven pull on something similar to the vents inside your car, that still seams like it would flow like crap though, why not just have piping with a conical filter and some sort of diverter bringing in cool air. Any reports on the results from the delete mod and this filter combo?

anyone know a source to get BMC filters? Also what are the filters that come with the VRP cf intake? Are those bmc filters?

Absolutely, oiled filters will eventually clog my MAF.
I would like something similar to the K&N without oil, even if there disposable.

If I get a v12 and go with the scorpion intakes, I'll probably tell him to keep the filters and I'll buy AEM dryflows, they flow as good or better with no oil

K&N has their filters out for the 65 now. Their price is much better than BMC. You can get a pair for what BMC charges for just one.

Yup..the only difference is that K&N puts a "support" piece in the middle of where the air flows into the intake. You can see the piece on the pics in the ebay ad:

But as mentioned, the K&N's are more "economical".
