Color to Sample

Have anyone of you ordered a custom color for the SL? Is it possible to do so? What about interior color as well? If so, how much is that option, and does it slow up production time?

There is always the Designo option. Yes, it does slow production somewhat. You can pick exterior color, interior leather type/color and even wood panel colors/type. nonly ordered one in variocolor4/pastel yellow two-tone leather. Also someone posted a pink SL from their trip to AMG sometime ago.

shank - i have been told that you cannot order a custom color R230. the only options are the basic colors plus the designo stuff. i find this hard to believe, but my dealer says that's the way it is. i was thinking of ordering my SL55 in PPG Giallo Modena, but i've been told it's totally not an option. if this is untrue, i'd be curious to hear so.

apparently rover won't do this either anymore. i was looking at replacing my jeep with a new range rover, and the dealer said that they MIGHT do it, but it'd get shoved to the bottom of the production list and they wouldn't make any promises as to delivery times. basically "we'll do it, but you'll be an old man by then" kinda stuff.

we've been spoiled by PAG!

Thanks about the site! Goes a long way!.

Hey, my dealer just told me that I can order it in any color and that it would not affect production, and He also stated I can get any interior color/leather too, but I asked him to double and triple check.

I was thinking of Briliant Silver or Polar Silver (from porsche) and NBL leather / Wood.

Is this with a US dealer?

I have been told many times that this is not possible through MBUSA.
If you know something different please share with us.
I am no spec'ng my car and wanted a special designo color only listed on the european option sheets.

jco-amg --- my understanding is that with enough kicking and screaming you can get a US car with more or less any european-only option. i know my dealer has delivered some R230s with options not generally available in the US (wheels, etc.). i assume they don't have a paint shop for the US cars and a differnet paint shop for ROW, so they should be able to paint any car any color they already paint with.

it's interesting that we're getting different answers from different US dealers. fairly annoying.

MBUSA has always had problems with meeting customer preferences

Years ago when Mercedes only offered limited slip differential on its "European Cars I tried to get that option added to a European Delivery car. There was just no way that MBUSA would allow it. Last summer I picked up a European Delivery vehicle and if I recall correctly the paperwork would not even allow me to do modifications to the car in Europe even after I had paid for it. Yes, it is possible to get a special paint job but believe me MBUSA will not help. One has to go over their head which is extremely difficult to do and requires an in with the parent company.

DEALER WAS IN ERROR

just to close this thread out and leave this info here for the next poor soul looking for data on this topic.....

i traded emails with shank, and it turns out that the dealer that told him he could do any color was in error.

so the 100% consensus unfortunately appears to be that MBUSA will simply not permit anything custom - it's either on the basic option list or it's on the designo list.

if you want anything else, you'll need to move outside the US.

When 2004 colors out?

Does anyone know the earliest that dealers are advised of the new colors (additions and deletions) for the 2004 models?
