From what I know 305 is the limit on these cars. I asked my tire guys who are not shy about big rubber, and they said no.

You can and with no rubbing issues. I have dont it with drag tires BUT, do the math on the OD and you will find you are well outside the max 2.5% variance tolerance.

I think 325 is too wide for 11", but anyway the 305/25 is a good fit on 11" and a good fit on the car, youre not going to get much beter look because it is a 325

I had a set of 20 x 11 inch techart rims on a 997s and ran a 325 in the back. Absolutely perfect with no rubs. Used pirelli pzero/nero which tend to run slightly smaller on the tire shoulders than a Michelin PS2 of the same size. The michelins rubbed at 325. Off topic but interesting.

What happens if you are outside the 2.5% variance and what is the tolerance relative to?

THanks!

305 is PERFECT for a 11 inch rim. the only way to do a 325 on a sl would be to do a wheel that stuck out a bunch and it wold look like ***. my wheels sit where they are supposed to and there is almost no clearance in the inside.

What tire size do you run on the front? I was thinking about going to 305s on the stock rear wheel, but stay with the stock 255/40-18 tire up front.

Presuming your stock tyre would be 285 x 35 x 18 then 325 x 25 x 20
will gear you up, so when your speedo says 60mph you will actually be doing
61.3 mph.

What brand tires were you using? I plan on trying 325 30 19's on a 2005 SL65, but most are saying not to waste my time with it not working.

i have 20x11 in the back and i run 315 without problems on my sl65

car is lowered too.

though feeling with my hands in the back there is no room for 325s imo under the stock fenders. running a different offset or spacers might move the tire away from the body, but will stick out and the fenders might need to be rolled to retain the stock non-ghetto appearance for anything over 315s.

Do you have a 315/25, or 315/30? Are you running stock 19" wheels?

I currently run 295's, but originally tried the 305's, and can say that 305's would be the max i would go. Depending on your camber etc, you might get away with slightly wider though.

I found a set of used 325/30/19 michelin's I'm going to try on my SL65 stock wheels. I am almost positive it won't work, but the tire shop said I could swap them out if they didn't work. My next try will probably be MT ET Street II 305/35/19's which may not work either, but I plan on putting a lot of power to the ground with this car. If those two sizes don't work, then I'll be SOL I guess.

305's on the stock wheel will not work. Well maybe i should rephrase that, it will go on, and inflate, but it looks like total **** because the tire sticks out past the lip of the rim way too much. I recently tried this, so i know.

You could be correct, but I ran a 305/35/18 on stock SL600 rims, and they ran like a champ. The tire was only slightly bowed out. The tires were MT ET Street II's which may not run as wide as the ones you tried. Since we are talking about a 19" rim it could look bowed out, but I will find out soon enough.
