i ordered a new sl55 at geneva motor show today where i spent 3 hours with the designo rep and boss of mercedes geneva (which is where i live)

finally found out from the designo rep that ''chalcedony blue'' on the e55 being demonstrated there was available on the sl55 although it was not in the catalogue !

so here it is :-
chalcedony blue (like a polar ice blue)
designo exclusive black interior with grey stitching that stops on the lower dash so as not to reflect in the windscreen (designo suggestion !)
and all options except pano

within 10 mins of leaving the merc boss rings me and says there is a free slot and i can have the car in june for 236,000 chf. i knock him down to 230,000 chf (which is good for here !) and hey presto it's a done deal. i take him my lexus sc430 next week for not bad money and 'starve' myself for 3 months !

Congrats man, I really pitty those guys in the states who can't order designo stuff.. US guys, demand from MBUSA that you can order these wonderful combos

So I guess us in the US can't get the designo stuff, huh? Is that pretty set in stone, or does anyone know of anyone who's got it done in the States? Plus, this might be a little out of the blue, but in a nother post, someone mentioned the color "silver arrow". Is that different from the usual brilliant silver?

Chalcedony Blue is a bit like Tellur Silver, it's a great colour and will look good with black interior.

I too think it's strange the designo choice is much more limited in the US than in Europe, especially since the US is the largest market and people in the US like to customise their cars more than we do here. Maybe it's to do with capacity to do specials on the line.

The Silver Arrow silver has an extra dose of "sparkle" in the paint and I believe the normal brilliant silver looks distinctly yellow next to it.

Maybe the lack of Designo options has to do with resale issues. Dealers could be opposed to unloading weird color combo cars on trade-in, etc. I know dealers in the US don't especially like it when people order blue interiors. One dealer told me they make people put a (non-refundable? -can't remember if he said that) deposit down.

It also could be simply demand. I doubt every Mercedes buyer, especially C-class buyers, would plomb down an additional $4000+ for a special paint/leather combo.

I know I'm the exception. I want all the Designo options available to me!

I thought we could get designo options? I must be mistaken. I saw a rather strange designo option on an S500, and the metallic greyish paint reflected back blues, purples, pinks and greens. Odd.

I just don't get the cost of the designo option. Kind of expensive. And resale of the unique colors must be difficult.

We americans don't get a lot of cool stuff from Europe. Good pot from Amsterdam. Good beer from Belgium. LOL.

We do get some Designo options, but they are pre-assembled packages from MBUSA. Designo in Europe is very customizable, unlike here.

that color is so popular on S in asia....my bro has one in that color too......surprisingly...theres not much S in that color....but wow! an SL in that blue??? thats impressive

its weird because look at the antenee for the SL. its black.. normally the antenea match the color of the car.
