SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: V12 Engine Out (feast your eyes)

Will do. We'll be there with a white 28foot enclosed trailer. Probably next to a red one with a silver SL in it

Your worst nightmare...
Not sure where this 1100whp came from guys. We never announced it as 1100whp. Back in March with rather cool weather the car made 733whp on a Mustang dyno. We did take it to a dynojet in the summer. With the temps outside being in the high 90s, that made the dyno place well over 100 deg inside. With a first pass of 748whp, engine and iats started getting to high for comfort and we aborted. Days later we went back to the Mustang dyno and again in near 100 deg weather we ended up with 680-690whp.

A quick update on the Texas Mile. I will post vids once I have time to download.
As most of you know the Lambo had a fantastic crash. Check You tube for vids. Bernie (Outcast) was the closest person to the crash and saw it in detail.
As for my car, we used the event to gather good info on different configurations.
We ran 191.xx MPH on Sunday
We did have a strong head wind that I was told was over 20mph and my car showed 100 degrees on Sunday but thats not the real issue.
This car is built to handle 30psi boost with the sweet spot being over 25 on these custom turbos.
We had no increase in power beyond the 20psi mark. We had thought we figured a way around that but obviously not. We did suspect this issue when we ran it in the 1/4 a few weeks ago. The ecu is pulling timing at anything over 20psi, possibly earlier.
Obviously, with better conditions and had we set the car back to exactly the way it was in March we would have had around 198 mph. Considering that we are no where near maxed out, you can just imagine the yet, untapped power still under the hood of this car.
Back in March anything over 21 psi put the car in limp mode. We have figured a way to stop the car from going into limp mode however we still have to sort thru the maps some more to get rid of this pesky timing retardation issue.

what is your back pressure on the turbos? Sounds like they are backing up at 20psi and why you can't make any power past that. Manifolds and turbo exhaust housing is probablly to small.
I saw alot of 185-188 runs on the car - glad you got it back up to 191 on Sunday.
The wind wasn't near as bad on Sunday as Friday and Saturday. Temps were in the low 80s all weekend. Most cars were running within a couple mph of what they should do at the mile this weekend. The 20mph wind was more of a cross wind than a direct headwind, so mph was not affected as much. Not like back in march when they had a 20mph tailwind straight down the track and everyone was 10mph faster than they normally would.
Good talking to you again this weekend, and still love the look of your car.

anyone want to come make a Nebraska mile? I am sure there is a chunk of road we can use somewhere, there is never anything interesting with cars here

JC, it was great meeting you and your wife this weekend. We have to get ready for the March mile and kick butt. I'll give you a call later this week and tell your doggie we said hello too.
As for the lambo crash...I had just made my past before the lambo. I was on the return road and slowed to watch the run. It sounded horrific as I was stopped and it was flipping passed me. Since I was a witness they keep me detained and I was not able to talk with anyone. I was able to call my wife and tell her I was ok. It was to keep news from getting to his wife that might get turned around and cause her to be even more upset. He did walk away once they got him out of the car. I still have not checked to see if my in car camera got any of the crash.

Backpressure is fine on the car. We swapped between 2 different a/r turbine housing to see what worked better. I know where the issue is, just need to figure out a solution. Also we started focusing on the gearing and rpm of the motor. The 55 cars spin higher which allows them to go about 20mph more before going into overdrive. v12 cars hit 5th at around 165mph which means they are pussing through with gearing working against them. Also the v12 is going to run out of gear around the 210mph.

Video 191 mph run @ Texas Mile
Here is a vid of one of the runs from inside the car. What do u see on the bottom corner of the windshield?

I've enjoyed following this project, guys. As an SL600 owner, I absolutely love to see this platform pushed to it's limit.
It's not even fair to compare my mods (OE Tuning ECU/Marcin TCU), and I feel like my car is pretty darn quick. I can only imagine the adrenaline shot you get at those speeds. Bravo, guys.....
Any chance you want to PM me that 1/4 mile ET/MPH? I'll keep it under my hat, on my word. Just very interested as I'm the only current SL600 owner posting timeslips right now.

Drag Slip
I did not realize how angry some peeps get when I said I would wait b4 posting drag slip so here it is. The res is poor so below are the numbers. YES...I had DRs. YES I suck at take off. YES I got a good burn. YES I tried dyno mode. YES I got coaching by phone from several folks who are experts at this stuff.
All runs were between 129-131. Not one 60 ft was under 2.0. Best 1/8th speed was 106.xx.
Half the time the ecu disengaged the turbos from the start.
All the time the ecu retarded timing at higher rpm.
Turbo trim was changed since March to experiment with spool and HP but that did not work to our advantage at this point since these are not high rpm cars.
Again, this platform is still in its test stage and probably will be so for a while but the potential power lurking under that hood is insane.
60: 2.05
330: 5.27
1/8: 7.72
1/8: 102.31
1/4: 11.51@129.75

Holy mother of MPH!
Excellent. As soon as you get the launch down, your times will be almost untouchable.
Who got angry about you not posting a slip?

Drag Slip Almost 133mph
Still have poor 60 ft. Note the relatively low 1/8th mile speed considering 132.75mph 1/4.
Still testing and tuning.
