My name is Mike, and I'm new! (JK)

I just scored a 2005 SL55, with only 25k miles on it. Its being shipped out to me. I should have it within 7-10 days. I'm very exited about car, and the opportunities it will bring to the Sl55 and 55k platform.

First things first, I got a choice between some HRE 547 or 841. The there is the option for RENNtech Monolites. So I got to make a choice here soon.

Next will be to make a set of production long tube headers for the SL55. Its just long over due. In fact I think I got a set that will fit, so I will try that first. Then there will be some other big time moves for the 55k coming just before the heat of the summer.

I'm really excited about this car. I felt held back from some projects I wanted to do on my C55. Even though it was fitted with an AMG blower. The set up or MAF sensor held me back from doing some cool stuff for the 55k.

This may not be a first, but you guys now have a sponsor who is going to be living with an SL55. I love to make go fast parts so... Lets start with the norms and get to the extremes.

Congrats. Both 841 and mono are good looking wheels but 547 has been my all time favorite so that's what I have on my SL.

Great car, but before you even get to use it your thinking of modifying it.
What's wrong with it as it is!!!

Over here it takes a week or two to need more poop. Wide open roads on a nice sunny day, won't take long.

We don't sit in the queue up on the "M" like you guys do...with our fog lights on ;-)

well... considering I'm coming off a 480whp/580wtq c55 that ran 11.55 with a broken transmission. I dont think the SL will be able to duplicate that out of the box. Not to mention, I could only fit a 265 tire in the back. It made for one crazy ride.

I'm just picking up where I left off, and looking to surpass my last car

This is going to be interesting. I hear there's another SL besides Hooleyboy that will be making a run after Sal's title. If I know Sal this will not be an easy task for anyone. This year is going to be a very interesting year for the 55k platform...the bar is rising and old records will fall.

Welcome the 55k Mike and let the modding begin!!!!!

Right now I'm just excited to get the car.. Even though I make stuff there will be other parts added to the mix that.. 1) I dont want to make 2) someone makes it better. Im sure there will be some tricks I'm ready to try out...

A little over a month ago, I had no plans to buy a car. I was very happy with my last one. So extending my personal funds over what the insurance company gave me, chewed up a bit of fun money.

Right now I got some wheels and tires on the way, then I'm R&Ding SL55 headers. I'm hoping my existing set for other 55k's can fit or be tweaked to fit. That would save me the loot it cost to make a whole new set of headers.

As for records, and going for them... I'll try to an extent. I'm just happy to be newly associated with folks that have set the bar so high.

With the C55 the long standing record was 11.98. I beat that by mistake. After doing that I kept trying to better my times.

In the end, I looked back at all the other C55's and no one was really trying to chasing me down. I felt like a guy running down the road saying "Lets go, lets go!" Only to look back and no one was following me. It made me kinda sad if you know what i mean... I ended up pulling my transmission right in the middle of Arizona's race season...

With that said, I'm just going to try and do my best to bring some cool stuff the table, and Make my new car as fast as I can make it. Hopefully I will have something that can compete at Famoso next year.

Just got word that my car ships out on Tuesday of next week. You guys have no idea how bad I'm dying to get out of the currant POS im driving right now.

As of yesterday, I felt so rejuvenated. For the past few years my hobby has been my car. After I wrecked my C55, I was kinda in the dumps. Not knowing what the future held.... Would I have to settle for something less than I wanted? I even took up a new hobby of R/C airplanes, because ATV's, guitar, music, beer, were not filling the void.

With all that said..... I'm just very exited to be back in an AMG! If it wasnt got guys on this forum helping to keep the passion alive. I might have moved on to something esle... So thank you all!

Congrats on the literally new car. Didn't Chuck lower the car? In your picture it doesn't seem lowered somehow or maybe it's just the light? Do you mind PM me how much you paid for it?

You are right to a certain extent, quite a few people here consider why they should spend money on something that already cost a lot of hard earned.
Your right about our congested roads, there is always something in front
to stop the fun, however that's not me
As son as I buy something I am looking for performance upgrades , wheels
etc. my wife says, when I say" this is great doesn't need anything doing to"
replies BS. She knows I'll be spending soon, but not for a few weeks. One thing really amazes me is the local tuning company is always packed with cars for modifying. They had a GT2, the guy wanted more power and spent nearly another 20 grand, when it was delivered ( footballer ) his wife said he
hardly uses it.

Ahhhhhhh, I'm confident that I know the owner of the car of which you speak.

Knowing the list of go fast parts that are going into that car, coupled with the owner's dedication and insatiable appetite to be #1, I say it's going to be a hell of a year for the SL55s on here.

You're gonna love that car, Mike.

Sad since now I don't have the fastest C55 to chase down anymore. Too bad I never got my car ready before you exited the C55 scene.

With all my frustrations with getting my car done, I ended up buying two more superbikes. It definitely fills the void in terms of the need for speed but teasing death may not have been a wise substitute.

I may also be joining the SL club next year when I collect my bonus and tax refund. What do you think about the SLR body kit from Wald?
