Dyno tuning in South Florida

I am having a tuner fly in next weekend to tune my car and some other members. It will be Saturday April 24th in West Palm Beach. He is one of the best in the biz. If you are in S. Fla and need a tune send me a PM for details.

My SL55 laid down 431.9HP and 474.4TQ completely stock, and with an off the shelf 93 octane tune she made 461.3hp and 509.0TQ. We didnt get into tuning my car due to my upcoming install of pulley and larger heat exchanger. New dyno pulls coming Monday after install. (pulls on mustang dyno)

I don't think I have ever heard of any 55k engine putting those numbers down even on a dynojet....

Those are freakishly high. Most tune and pulleyd cars don't put down 461 on a dynojet let alone a Mustang. Mustang's are 13 to 20% lower than dynojets usually.

Do you have the graph handy for us to see? What were the other cars putting down? Similar numbers?

If they were putting down similar numbers than I think their dyno is off. It's still fine for tuning though.

The big picture is the gains he received with a box tune. To gain 30 rwhp and 35 rwtq with a tune only..... Not all dyno's are created equal and numbers should never be compared to others, pointless IMO. I'm sure he'll soon take his car to the track and post the results, all though I'm sure Florida is really starting to heat up right now.

Take a look at my signature, I dynode 565 rwhp on a Dyno Dynamics and 2 weeks later I hit 447 rwhp on a mustang dyno. Are we to believe that I make 447 rwhp on 4100 pound car with a best time of 10.776 at 130+ traps? I'm pretty sure I'm making more than that but yet the dyno told me otherwise. Either way I'll take my 10.776 run over the 565 and 447 any day.

Definitely not trying to start a debate over dyno numbers but rather just putting in my $.02. I'm sure you realize the same thing, dyno's are best used as a tuning tool and not for bragging rights.

BTW... Nice launch on that video! Very respectable 60' time on the Toyo's. Are you still running the Toyo's and do you plan on using the same tires on your next set? I need new tires soon and I'm tyring to decide whether or not to try something new or stick with my Toyo's T1r's.

Someone mentioned this would happen, all the questions and doubts would come pouring in. FLSL55 we live in the same area PM me lets meet up or come down to Japtrix Monday and witness it for yourself and maybe make a few pulls with your car. I have dyno charts, but let me ask you this...what exactly do you think you'll see on the dyno charts besides the numbers they represent and by the way look at my baseline numbers, your telling me a tuner cant pull another 30hp and 39 lb ft of torque out of a simple tune?

Azn was there with his E55 and Pat with his CLK55, they laid down some pretty good numbers too.

Haha...always happens. You have no idea what kind of crap I've been given on this board for posting results. It has ranged from dyno numbers, tracks, and trap speeds. I've been accused of having cams, nitrous, head work, and all sorts of other good things..... I've learned to get pass all the BS and just enjoy the car and let the naysayers hate and be jealous. The bottom line is that they need to justify their cars performance by either talking down or doubting others.

i was shocked by the numbers i saw on that SL too but can personally attest to the power. I can also say that although high dyno numbers are alluring they dont mean anything. the main thing is to have a nice clean chart with proper AFRs and no dips or valleys. i have dyno comparison charts from february to now and the difference is staggering what a proper tune can do. FLSL55 i recommend u come on monday and if you dont walk away with a decent gain from just a tune then u can easily go back to stock. the benefit is not just power gains - its cleaner power with better response and an all around better driving experience. the tuner has decided to stay a little longer and take care of some unfinished business. if you didnt make it this weekend PM me and we might be able to get the tuning done monday or tuesday...

here are some quick samples...

I vouch for my man, eddy! Those were his numbers, "it is what it is"...ignore SFSL guy, he's probably just annoyed at the fact that his baseline wasn't higher.

I'm just being honest. I didn't mean to ruffle any feathers. Those are the highest numbers I have seen on the boards for any stock 55 engine.

Didn't mean to come across as a na sayer. I know all the guys at japtrix. I've been around the block once or twice guys

I now have a Stage 1 Renntech in my Sl55.

My baseline was 423 for my car on Renntechs dyno. I ran a 12.0 flat @ 116mph with that power.

I think dyno numbers have become a very touchy matter and most are on the defensive. I honestly don't think much of dyno numbers except for the gains given when compared to the baseline.

What was the 60' time on that run? Was that with street or DR's? How about the DA and humidity? In all honesty you guys should meet up at the track and do some friendly runs. It seems both of you have very strong running SL's but only one will prevail.

Bassn,

My car is not stock anymore. I've VARY rarely seen SL55 owners in my area willing to drag race and when they do, their numbers are usually in the high 12's and mid 12's if they are experienced.

I ran 12 second flat runs in my SL when it was stock on different nights. So I know the numbers was easily repeatable. The DA was under 1000 and the humidity was high as it always is in Florida.

My 60 foots are usually 1.78-1.82 or so on my Toyo T1R tires. I think they are as good as PS2's hands down at half the cost. I have had them on some of my VERY high HP cars with great results.

I would LOVE to have other SL guys come out one night at PBIR in Jupiter for an AMG get together!

Most of the time people don't show or they do and won't run their cars.
