Opinions SL65 Wheels vs SLR wheels on an SL65!

On the fence on which look I like better?...

The stock SL65 Wheels or the SLR wheels... Both are 19 inch with the same tires.

It took a lot of experimenting and then machining of special parts to make the SLR wheels fit but they are on my SL65...
The up side for the SLR wheels is they are wider in the rear (11.5 inches)by 1.5 inches and .5 inch up front... With the wider rears I have better traction so less wheel spin and the car hooks up without the Traction Control kicking in all of the time!

Plus the front SLR wheels are also lighter so the car does handle and drive better...

Please voice your opinions... Flame away!

Thanks

Nice... Way better than the Lorinser turbine wheels.

How did you get them to fit?

The "SL65" wheels in the picture look like the wheels for the E55 Performance package, and 2006 CL55 and S55. I prefer the real 65 wheels with the titanium painted centers.

BTW the SLR's turbine wheels are actually designed to act as fans and extract under car air at speed for more downforce/high speed stability.

TMC M5 Those are real SL65 Wheels! The sets with 10 inch rears come ONLY in Silver!

Check your MB dealer option book for the SL65 Wheels and you will see that the OPTIONAL SL65 wheels with 10 inch wide rears came only in Silver.

If it was possible I would have have ordered them in Titanium because they look better and stay cleaner!

Interesting about the ground effects for the SLR wheels... Another reason to like them...

Although one would have to exceed the speed limit for the ground effects to actually work and I NEVER exceed the speed limit!

Interesting, I didn't know that.

You could always test it on a closed course...

Here is the article that mentions just how effective the SLR wheels are in contrast to the optional winter wheels they tested:

ROAD AND TRACK MUST HAVE TESTED A VERY SPECIAL SLR! IT HAD A V12!!!!!

The title of the Road and Track article reads as follows!

"With its supercharged 617-bhp V-12 on full boil, the bone-stock SLR launches with an eerie calm and comes painfully close to hitting 200 at our 2-mile shut-down point."

I wonder where they found a V12 SLR?

Every other SLR on the planet has a V8...

You would think that authors and editors of a highly regarded magazine would know at least something about the cars they test...What a bunch of MORONS!!!

I must admit in the text it refers to the Supercharged V8...

Nice catch. I remembered this article from the hard copy one in my "library" and found the link online. I will have to check to see if the hard copy was wrong as well.

When you think about it...the SLR should have had a V12....in fact they should have went N/A and dropped the 7.3L V12 they source to Pagani. That would have made quite a pairing. But I am sure Pagani must have a provision in their contract that prohibits AMG from putting the same engine in any production road vehicles (aside from the 7.2 engined vehicles already built).

That's what I have(RennTech) and think they're (IMHO) the best wheels out for the SL

I had SLR wheels on my SL. All I needed was some basic H&R spacers to make them fit (still have the rear spacers and bolts even). My SLR wheels are for sale now anyways. I loved the look but am looking for something different.

2008 MB CL600. 2020 MB E300 de. 1987 BMW M535i.
I would paint the center of the 65 wheels in titanium grey.
They really look "65" to me, and are a very distinctiv evidence for some power under the hood.

Too many 500's drive around with SLR wheels, since that's a very simple way of making their low budget cars look somewhat cool.
Of course, they buy the copies!
And that's also a negative, that 99 out of a a 100 are just that...

Wow, the SLR wheels look SOOOO GOOD!

And I though the SL65 wheels always had a dark gray tint to them?

ST wheels

If the car performs better, stay with the SLR....no brainer as they look great compared to silver AMG wheels....

The old style 65 titanium wheels are my favorite...Second would the the SLR wheels simply because they're from a supercar...the renntech wheels in the picture above look terrible to my eyes, too big and wouldn't suit many cars and certainly not the SL...
