Yes it is a reality. I corresponded with AMG, and I was told that the SL65 will soon follow the CL65 AMG car later this year. Such a car could race with perhaps the Vision SLR by McLaren!

I have a deposit down on one from a large SL dealer. But no confirmation or when or cost.

Deposit, On What?

Palbertr,

I don't understand how you could give a deposit to any Mercedes-Benz dealer and how any such a dealer could accept your deposit on the SL65 AMG car? Any car to be sold in the USA has to be tested and Federalized by the U.S. government first! Mercedes isn't going to sell the car or take any orders by deposit on a car that is NOT planning to be federalized in the USA. The SL65 hasn't even come out in Europe yet! In fact the CL65 just came out in Europe and that hasn't been federalized in the USA either!

Mercedes AMG has stated that the CL65 AMG car will not be sold in the USA. As there are no plans to sell it in the USA. Therefore it is obvious that the SL65 like it's brother the CL65 will not be sold in the USA either.

Either the dealer took your money without your knowledge of the car to not be sold in the USA or your fooling here on the forum putting us on!!!

Besides let's have history be the precedent here. Of the previous generation SL, the top AMG SL model, namely the SL73, never got sold or federalized in the USA. In fact AMG sold over 500 cars with the 7.3 liter V-12 engine!

If you think I wrong, go ahead and correspond with AMG...

So let's get real now and stop fooling around by saying you put money down on a car that you don't even know is coming to the USA... who's stupid enough to do that?

The dealer has 5 deposits on cl65's. several others dealers are taking orders.Somebody has gotten them excited. Whether it makes it here or not remains to be seen. Plenty of things change when it comes to car manufactures. I remember trying to get a clk 55 and a mbusa rep I spoke with said a clk 55 would never happen due to a rigidity problem at high speeds. I was also told a mercedes could not be modified after a certain date, yet when I imported a gray market car I forgot a option. A good friend of mine was able to go on the production line to have it done. Yes it was listed on the build sheet as an option upon recieving the car. Maybe Ronald in Germany can supply more info on the CL and SL 65's.

well there is no harm done in putting down a deposit, besides the fact that the money could have been invested somewhere else for a return

its a risk, but its not like the dealer would run off with your money, if its not gonna come to the US, they would give your money back. If it does come to the US, he would be one of the first ppl to get it!!! Could turn around and sell it at a hefty premium/profit, which would then be a good investment...

It all depends on the amount of the deposit. $500? How much did you give?

$500? For that car I'd think at least $1,000 or more like $5,000 would be an appropriate deposit to make sure only those very serious about ordering the car placed a deposit.

I put down $1000. signed contract. Ronald had emailed me that 2 canadian contacts confirmed to him that they"officially preordered an SL 65" thru MB in Canada. MY dealer who says he sell the most SL in the country, says his contacts with AMG say the car is coming. Time will tell

I also want to know, AFAIK the 65's aren't coming to North America. You have to take a 600 and send it to Special Wishes.

Appropriate for who? The dealer? Or you? An "appropriate deposit" is as little as you can get the dealer to take, especially for a car that most people think wont even come here. LMAO....why do you care about making sure only people serious about ordering make the deposit? If you are a dealer or salesman i understand. If not, please feel free to leave as much as you like. But in my opinion $500 is plenty.

I also have a signed contract for $500. No harm done if the car doesn't make it to the states. My dealer knows I am serious because I bought an SL55 from him.

heres what you can do....

like ferraris and euro lamborghinis, you can import a european car and bring it up to US standards. I know with Ferraris a great deal is involved but im not really sure to the differences between US and Euro mercedes besides the bupers/bumper covers and possible emission differences.

One more thing....

Unless you guys have tons of money, I wouldnt encourage even importing this car unless a US dealer will honor the European warranty. As an owner of 3 auto repair shops, I can tell you that the previous generation mercedes v12 (w140) was a pain to fix. Alot of jobs required lifting the engine to do repairs properly. They cost a fortune to maintain and fix, without a supercharger! Furthermore, US dealers might not be equipped with the proper comptuers for this car, and US dealers might not carry parts for this car if it doesnt make it to the US and peopel choose to import it.

Lightbulb Price of CL65 AMG

You heard it here first, and you won't find it on the AMG web site!!! The approximate price of a CL65 AMG car will be 170,000 Euros. If your wondering how I got to know this price as such, I have inquired to AMG directly. And just to add a little more information, the S65 AMG car is also available. However the SL65 will come out later this year. Happy shopping in Europe everyone!
