SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: New buyer..
These cars are very reliable....... if they are cared for. Mine has been bullet proof, and I have had it since '03.
I have a number of clients who got a 'deal' and ended up spending another $20K making the car right. Sometimes the best deal isn't about the money.

And I can't stress enough that you need to budget another 3-5K for a warranty. You do not want to own one of these out of warranty. It's not that they break a lot, they don't....well some do, I suppose. But the good ones don't. But when they do, you can't get out of the dealer for less than a grand. Couple visits to the dealer and the warranty has paid for itself.
The convertible top is a very complex piece of engineering and expensive when things don't work properly. The ABC system is another common source of making your wallet lighter.

Why do most people in the US throw their service books away..? Or don't fill them out...
At least that goes for all the cars I've come across here (in Sweden), that have been imported from the US.
Strangly enough they tend to NEVER have a service book...
Or as I said, if they DO have one (10% chance) it sure is an empty one...

How come..?

We all know about "Car Fax", and how that is a system you seem to trust to the fullest, but still...
(Car Fax is btw a system that I find nice and smart'n all. Too bad we don't have that here!)
But trying to sell a car here with no service book at all, and just refer to the computers, is like selling a three-legged donkey...

But what about the third buyer/owner there, isn't the maintenance history a pretty important part when deciding if the deal is good or not..?
And if he has to go threw some kind of an investigation when he's buying the car, why not have the book stamped and filled out then, since it's NOT gonna be any easier down the line..!
I mean, he PROBABLY wants to sell his car one day...

Speaking of price, does anyone have any up to date auction prices for 2005 SL55 AMGs?
-ROOK
P.S.- I've been looking around becuase I'm considering purchasing an '05-'06 SL55 and noticed that those prices have a really huge range. There's a private seller letting his '05 SL55 go for no less than $59,000! No perf mods on it either!
