CLK 55 AMG
Sl 55

Hi.

I'm about to place an order for an SL 55 2004 model and have just one question to ask if somebody could help me out.

I read on mbspy.com that oyu can place some kind of a bar and make the SL 55 a 2+2 car instead of the 2 seater.

Has anybidy tried doing that and is it possible to do with the SL model. I know that the SL is a 2 seater car but 2+2 wouldn't hurt either.

Thanks for any help.

I think you are talking about the booster seats that you could use on the older SL modols. There is No room at all for anyone to sit in the "back" of the R230 SL. In the previous modols you could but a bench type of seat in the back with lap belts.

In the old model (129) you could get seats as an opion, and fitting after maket lap belts for use with the parcel shelf was easy.

My kids (4 and 6) fit in the back 'seats' (shelf) of the SL55 but you can not get seat belts as far as I am aware.

Please let me know if you find otherwise.

Can't be done unfortunately ( least , not safely or legally). Looked into this 3 months ago before buying one for the missus. 9 yr old boy can't sit in the back , nor can baby seat for 11 month old daughter. Brillianttttt!!! , means I have to borrow it and she has to drive my bus for the day occasionally.
Fantastic car , but yes , impractical.

Hi David,

if you really need 2 additional seats, you can still go for the new CLK 55 cabriolet (A 209). It's not an SL 55, but it still is a lot of fun!

Ronald,

Yes , it's not an SL ! Only really explored the (back seat) option for the occasional "Sunday Pub lunch" with the family , roof off ,sunny day. But this is England , so that could never happen anyway!!
So ,ended up with the SL for her , plus her Saab 9-5 estate for practicality , my Range Rover 2003 Td6 Vogue (truly THE best car in the world) , and my Lotus 340R track toy to compensate for giving up motorbikes.
Now , is there one car that could combine all that? I've got a Bentley Continental GT on order , in fact I'll be seeing one in the flesh in a couple of weeks. We'll see......

Please please dont do that.

I had a 4mph impact in the SL55 (ran up back of a C230k that just stopped) and the roll-bar poped up. The only damage was the numberplate holder at a slight star-type crack on the bumper.

That would have it your kids right in the back of the head at a huge velocity :-(
