Winter Storage Tips
Consultancy has it pro's and con's, mine is taking me from Houston to NJ for the winter (ugh!)
. As a consequence, I plan on storing the SL63 until the spring. As I am new to my ride and storing it, are there any special precautions I need to take? I just had the B service completed; I plan on stabilizing a full tank of gas, tire cradles for the tires and placing a trickle charger on both batteries. I will cover it for sure. Any thing else, appreciate the help and thanks.![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Hopefully someone else will chime in and verify, but I don't think you need the trickle charger on the main battery, just the consumer battery in the trunk. That is what I do for the winter and have had no issues.

I also use a trickle charger rear only and it's worked fine for me.

I'm going to have wooden blocks made to fit under the jack points so that when the ABC pressure eventually goes away, the car won't sink to the bottom. This way it'll also decrease pressure on the tyres.

all good tips....are we missing anything? How long can fuel sit before it goes bad? I also hate the abc lowering the car if it sits for a while but seems like once it's fired up it's back on board and previous ride setting is restored. Any way without wooden blocks to fix this?

i saw the results of gas that was stored over winter and it isn't good. If you value your car, a bottle of staybil is pretty cheap

we put it in a beater car that was going to auction and it wouldn't start if it was cold out and gave it a ton of misfire and hesitation. I wouldn't suggest it, especially on a nice car

Does this indicate a problem or is this to be expected?
Thanks for info or input.

How long does it take for the ABC to lose pressure or "lower" the car? My 06 SL did not used to drop. Now after several weeks of not driving the car it will drop only at the drivers rear quarter and returns to normal position after starting the car.

yes, your car should be fine in that position.
As Sunir stated, some cars with ABC tend to droop after sitting for awhile. I would not be concerned about it unless you are getting consistent ABC warning lights.

This is what I do
Change the engine oil and filter
Fill with Sunoco 260 (100 octane unleaded)
Add Sta Bil and run until up to temp.
Set car up on jack stands and remove wheels.
Battery tender
Set the garage temp to 68![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Now the car is ready for all the winter preventive maintenance and repair projects.

This is just after my head - engine oil + filter the most important and if there’s no heating, then a moister eater in the cabin but also in the trunk.

My MB mechanic says that if you use a single battery tender, to keep the tender on the front battery (starter battery)...that way, the car always starts and the alternator will then replenish the rear battery as necessary.

Another suggestion from my dealership was to put Styrofoam between the wiper blades and the windshield. The reason being to stop the rubber sticking to the to the glass. Cheap fix, will try.

Seriously thinking of just disconnecting the battery instead of dealing with wires and charging and leaving my trickle charger outdoors for the winter
i don’t see it taking more than 20 seconds to resync the windows...it’s 2 seconds to connect and reconnect the battery...any other downsides?
