Check Key Battery???

Hi Guys:

Long time... work/life crazy (but good). Went to start car today and got quick "Check Key Battery" then a "click" sound and then take car to shop warning.

Car does not start. Any suggestions or thoughts????

Thanks,
D-

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Did

you try your other key?
Then replace the 2 key batteries. pg 389 of your owners manual.
keyless go key? I assume, since the regular ir key does not need a battery to work in the ignition switch.

I actually did not try the 2nd key. I was in a rush so I took my wife's X5 since she is out of town. I did nto realize the the failure of key battery would actually prevent the car from starting. Damn - I feel stupid.

THANKS!

it is possible that your main starting battery (front) is dead. if you have never replaced your battery and your car is an 06- it is about time it died. try to charge the existing one a bit and see if it makes a difference? if it does- you need a new battery. if it doesnt- take it to the dealer as your problem is deeper.

do not assume that it is the battery

as i said- charge battery and try to start car. if that does not work- take battery out and bring it to your local auto store- they can test it there. if it is bad- buy another one, if it is good- take car to dealer...

this is what i would do if i dont have the means to troubleshoot and repair car at home
