SL65 oil change

Has anyone performed an oil change on a SL65???? What kind of oil filter tools are required? Removal of underbody shield????

Thanks in advance
Mike

No offense intended, but if you are asking questions like that... I would bring it to the dealer...

THe oil change is self- explanatory... the only semi-tricky part is resetting the service indicator (and identifying what services need to be performed before you do the reset).

Good luck...

ALX/other members:

Perhaps I misstated my question.......or certainly worded it poorly.
The oil filter access seems to require removal of the engine shielding from the top. Is there an easy way to effectuate oil filter removal? I am aware that the vacuum method is not applicable due to oil pan baffles.......hence dual drain plugs......any precautions in removal of underbody shielding?

Did anyone actually do a 65 oil change themselves??
(I do my own 600, 560 and 911 oil chnages)

Thanks,
Mike

There is nothing fancy. If you have an adjustable oil filter wrench it will do just fine. The fleece filter is attached to the oil filter cap and will require some force to be removed. On some occasions the whole plastic shaft with the filter might become detached from the cap as you are pulling the filter trying to slide it off the shaft. If that happens you can just snap it Right back on. Use gloves as it is a little messy. If you have an extractor suck the oil from the oil filter case- there will be a few ounces there.

Removing the engine shields is trivial. Once you are under there you will know what to do.

Removing the engine top covers is easy too. Just grab firmly the front and pull up slowly but firmly. You will see the rest.

ALX:

Thank you for your reply.......my main concern was the carbon fiber cover. I was afraid to use to much force( I bet big $$$$ to replace).......but it came right off.

Drain plugs are not recommended to be reused. New ones at ea oil change-this is the Dealers SOP.

I don't think you should re set the service indicator when just changing
the oil and filter, it should only be done after a full service, unless some one
knows different.

I agree, but it sounds like he just wants to change the oil and filter, rather
than service it. Actually that's probably all Mercedes does, whilst charging
a fortune.

Gents:

Look at the MB A and B services......most are visual checks and items to generate a bill.

My car has a whooping 26 miles on it.....
