SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: 20" wheels with 295/30/20?
I am interested in upgrading my SL55 from the AMG 18" wheels to either 19's or 20's. I am leaning towards the 19's for concerns about ride quality but do agree with most of you that the 20's would look better on the car.
So..if I went with 19" wheels I would get a 305x30x19 rear and all would be fine regarding staying compliant with the rolling diameter. But I have read that some of you are running a 295x30x20 rear with a 245X35X20 front which provides for more of a sidewall / air cushion (just like the 19" set up) but are a 27" diameter set up instead of the 26" diameter spec.
My car is not lowered so my question is if you think this would mount on the car without any rubbing issues? Any other issues other than some minor speedo calibaration might be required?
Thanks...David

150shot...when will you be putting them on your rims? 10.5 or 11" rear? 9 inch front?
His question was about 295/30-20 which is 26.96". Read his question, its at the end of his post. He knows about 19", he wants to know about 20" with increased tire diameters to have more sidewall.
To the OP: I do know that 245/35-20 front and 285/30-20 rear produce no rubbing issues to speak of on a stock hight R230. I do not know about 295/30-20.

I have 255/35/20 frnt and 285/30/20 rear. I have not had any scrubbing but what I do have is a wheel that sticks out past the fender.... not very attractive. Just got the car and 20s are just way to rough. I'm going back to the stock setup 255/40/18 and 285/35/18 as soon as I sell these wheels and tires on eBay or I wear out the tread. My setup exceeds the three percent rule for brake safety and the larger diameter also stresses the tranny and drive train. My speedo reads 3 MPH low so tickets are always a possibility. You seemed to be leaning towards the 19s and I'd go for that as any sidewall at all will help the ride. Mines sticks to the road like glue and makes 90deg turns at speed but they are rough and noisey. Use the calculator at 1010tires.com, and just solving for the diameter is only half the battle. The offsets might save your calipers but put you outside the fenders like mine. UGH! I don't have the offsets for my lowenharts but they only clear the fender by fractions. 305s are going to be pushing it. A word of caution about getting the wheels... make sure you get to try them on first. I know of a couple of cases where the EXPERTS at some of these tire dealers had little or no information on MBs and made a lot of assumptions on offsets and the buyer was then was forced to eat the two rear tires on his 600SEL due to scrubbing.
