SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Trade in value SL 65 AMG on Porsche 991
Nice car.....
I asked what the trade-in value on my very clean 2005 SL65 AMG with 43,000 miles would be on the 911, if I were to buy it this week.........
Took them a day to come up with $ 33K........
KBB, etc trade-in... is in the mid 50's.......
To say the least, I responded with an instantaneous laugh.....
Anybody else explored trade-in value on their 65 on another car?

I would never trade an SL65 to a Porche... never. SL it's much more a better car.... and look 10 times better than an Porsche...
The AMG overall seems to be a better built car than even the NEW 911 with better quality materials used in many areas of the car.........again the NEW 911, after second thoughts did not turn me on.......my 993 still can give me the sport car feel.....
Different type of cars.........count my blessing I have the 993 to run hard and the SL to cruise a bit.......
Though I had never considered owning a Porshe before, I must say the newest 991 Carreras are quite impressive indeed!

I bought an 09 SL65 I also have a 991 they are very similar except the SL is more GT and the 991 is more sports car. Porsche narrowed the distance between them quite a bit.

you always get lowest price on trade-ins. It's a hassle but best to sell on your own.
Spring is around the corner and a good time to sell. I'd recommend Autotrader.com is a good sellers/buyers site. Good-luck.

It would be a bad feeling to be "at the mercy" of a local Porshe Dealership for service and sales simply because no others were located conveniently nearby. I guess it is fortunate for me that (3) Porsche Dealeres do exist in Southeast Florida, just not so convenient since these (3) are spaced more than 50 miles apart. Locations are West Palm Beach, Pompano Beach/(FTL), and Coral Gables/(Miami). I would imagine there are far fewer Porsche Dealerships in most other areas of the USA. so not as much choice as MB when it comes to Dealerships.
Understandable of course since Porshe has not enjoyed the broad appeal of MB since the Porshe reputation is built soley around its sports cars. Hopefully, the success of the Cayenne SUV and the Panamera Sedan will help add more Porshe Dealerships over time. I am also convinced they will only gain Sports Car marketshare with the new, much-improved 991's. The 991 is far more luxurious car now and therefore a much more serious competitor for MB's SL line now. The Cayman/Boxter mid-engine twins have consistently been worthy opponents to the SLK and will continue to challenge in that segment. The Panamera Sedan and the Cayenne are not too shabby either!
Seems to me that Porshe is on a bit of a roll now with more all-new models coming soon! If you haven't seen one up close recently, I suggest you take a look at the 991's. I did, and came away quite impressed!
Looks like your SL is worth mid 40's wholesale.

China is expected to become their biggest market in 5 years and that will continue to influence what they serve up. The Cayenne diesel, which does not even use a Porsche engine, is the biggest selling model variant.
Meanwhile, the new SL is being reviewed very favourably here, as in "the best convertible". Just a pity it is so pig ugly.
would like, then think around half that and after you come down from a rage,
think of half the figure that wound you up, that's about right.

Funny how cars are so sought after, and your lucky to get one when the sales guy is selling, and then when your part ex the car it's, we wouldn't want
it, and we would trade it on, even if your car is superbly immaculate and a top seller. I'm afraid it's one rule for them, and you know the rest.

As a newbie here, but not in watching the car market, these cars sure do drop fast compared with say 911 turbo, Aston Martin, etc. i don't get it? I will get mine in 10 days, but from everything i see, i don't see why they depreciate so much, so fast? Hand built V12 bi-turbo, in a killer convertible hard top coupe, plus, plus, plus, please...

Aston Martin is an exotic.
Benz is a different story. Going from BMW to Benz had been a culture shock. If I had any leftover BMW parts, I'd post them online and they would be gone in a day. I have a much harder time moving my leftover Benz parts. The BMW online community...HUGE. The Benz online community...not that big. While I know there are some loyal Benz guys, it seems most Benz owners shop other brands and even the loyal Benz guys upgrade every time a new model hits the dealer. While the previous generation Benz cars are still great, the lack of a cult/racing following and HIGH repair costs keep a lot of buyers away.
At $30-$50k, the 55, 600, and 65 cars are absolute steals. But they aren't really exotics like Aston/Ferrari, they aren't really track ready like BMW/Porsche, and keeping a SL65 out of warranty on the road as a daily driver will run you $5-$10k a year.
I'm praying that respectable warranty companies still offer platinum coverage for the V12 and AMG cars in a year when my plan is up.
