SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Ticking SL63
I have a 2009 SL63 with about 20,000 miles and noted a loud ticking noise upon start up (cold engine). It seems to speed up with increase in RPMs and occurrs with air conditioning turned on or off. didnt go away with 2-3 minute warm up. I have had the car six months and just started hearing it today. I cant tell for sure what side of the engine bay it is coming from. Could it be a valve? Any thoughts on what it is? Have anyone else had a similar issue? what was the diagnosis. BTW I dont abuse the car and i dont think the first owner did either. Thanks for your input!!
Happy 4th of July!!
Now, pour a large bottle of chevron techron on empty tank, fill up to half tank with gasoline and go drive it like you mean it.
You are welcome

This is your knock sensor adjusting to ambient temps. It usually ticks like that on a cold start on a cold weather.
After you drive it for a few miles, it goes away and then when start it agin (same day) you won't hear it. There is nothing wrong. Every 63 M156 motor does it

It could of course just be oil getting into the lifters, the ticking noise ( which
happens on many cars ) will go as the engine warms up, if they are badly worn however they may get quieter but not go completely.

MB engines can take any type of driving I'm sure.
