SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL Interior Issue

SL Interior Issue
Any SL owners give me feedback on something. Is the R230 SL's dashboard low or am I just imagining it from the pictures. It looks low unlike say an SLRs which makes you feel like you're sitting in a cockpit. The SLs interior in photos looks like you're siting in a van almost or a truck. I know the steering wheel part isn't like that but I'm talking about the center dashboard it looks like it's sweeping towards the windscreen and looks low. Am I just imagining it?

I should add, with slight embarrassment, that I love the feel of sitting in the SL so much, I have been known to sit in it after it has been in the garage for most of the long winter and have been caught by my wife doing so. I quickly tried the excuse of "I can't seem to change the clock back to daylight savings time." The quick reply of "yeah right" let me know my attempt to cover was unsuccessful.

Undeniably it's an amazing interior. I'm talking about the middle dash though because I love that "cockpit" feeling and the SLs center dash looking likes it's sweeping low and forward.

The SL is definitely not like a van. My advice is to go sit in one and I'm sure you will become a fan.

The shape and interior is nice but that's not my question. My question is how low is the middle dashboard. I'll show you what I mean. Look at the SLR interior below. See how the middle dash and the whole interior for that matter is high. Couple that with the bucket seats making you sit low it gives that cockpit impression. I've never been in an SL interior but in photos it seems dashboard is flatter and lower in height which makes it seem like you're sitting higher in the car sort of like an SUV.

How many times are you going to repeat yourself? Go to a dealer and sit in one, or even better... Drive it and decide if it suits you! Good luck in your search!

Put another way, the cockpit of the SL feels like that of a fighter jet. You sit low, but feel in control. The ergonomics combine with all of the other aspects of the interior to create more than a feel, almost an experience. Sounds corny I know. Just go sit in one!
