SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: overZealous1's build thread
Nice work.
Curious, trunk tank and water injection? Seems like two stones to kill one bird.
Interested to hear your thoughts. Will you be using meth or ww fluid? Tuning for the injection or just for iat's?
Good luck with your project!
aem recommends a 50-50 water/meth concentration. those numbers come from back in ww2 iirc when the military was testing it on the planes. that was the best combo to wart of heat and detonation. so in other words, yup, probably just ww! they said pretty much anything blue is the correct stuff and the correct ratio.
i am expecting to make alot of heat, so i am setting meth to come on at about 5psi, and full on at 10psi. will have to play with it to see where my final boost will be now and at what point i am making decent boost.
will wait for final tuning once i get my exhaust figured out and on. first tune will be a simple reflash from ec for the larger injectors. will just have to stay out of it till i get it on dyno for final tune.
then, once the nitrous goes on, all heat issues will be gone. i wonder if the iat sensor can read in negative? lol
Where did you find the 82tb? Amazing the transformation made with some black paint. Going to be one bada55 engine bay. What paint did you use for the plastics?
i got the tb off ebay. after talking with shardul, it sounds like the audi v8 one is just swapping 2 wires and can be had for $150 all day long too!! got one of his adapter plates and should be getting both tomorrow. only half day of work tomorrow so the latter part of tomorrow and weekend will be spent pretty much wrapping the project up.
the paint on the blower i used gloss black engine enamel. pretty tough stuff once cured! the plastics i used a rustoleum paint. it is their industrial line. very tough once cured. i have painted wheels with it before and it holds up the best right next to powdercoating! great stuff. i always keep a few cans around, you always need satin black for something.
http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=95 home depot carries it, but very limited colors.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

how much material comes out for a 74mm to 82mm. big hoss grinder about to do it's thing.

visual of 74mm and 82mm

ground out, sand rolled and blended.

painted and ready to assemble tomorrow. the adapter has 2 holes that were tapped, but other 2 were designed for a bolt to go through it. no prob, tapped the larger hole and drilled out the throttle body holes for a bigger bolt.

now, trying to figure the wiring so i can use the side cap from the mercedes throttle body and be able to use mercedes plug.
engine should be back together today!! still have hoses from trunk tank to do and final wiring of the meth kit.won't have tcu back till probably wednesday, so decided to paint wheel centers while i am at it. doing something outside the box i think. time to look at color charts!!
think this might be a winning combination! silver and machined centers, black barrels, and black bolts. only painted a few bolts to get a vision of it. will get one set black oxide coated.
previous all silver

my spoiler,..................for my spoiler. it only took 48 hours to start messing up the lower front of the cf spoiler. took some 1/4" thick abs and made a splitter/protector to mount underneath. heated it and bent it to follow the contours on bottom of spoiler too. total cost=zero. already had abs, rivets, and screws.

waiting on parts again to get car wrapped up. just staying busy in the mean time.
couldn't attach pics and photobucket is down right now. pics tomorrow.
i have yet to start it. waiting to get everything done first. been a long work week, so still have to run the trunk water lines and finish meth wiring and a few other things.
i did test the tb though, seems to work fine. it does however go to throttle blade wide open when peddle is at about 60%. hahah. should make it exciting! i am having a feeling though that since engine was not running and ecu had no other parameters to go off of, it won't act like that with engine running. will find out.
once it is all together, then can schedule remote tune flash with ec. they said they have maps that will work with my combo. will run the meth kit as safety till i can fine tune with the meth kit later. maybe after adding the nitrous.
just got my tcu back from ec, so lots of changes happening in one shot. can't wait to drive it again!!
i am building another car right now, and fabbing a tt kit for it. the car won't be done for a long time as it is literally building a car from almost scratch. i keep eyeing the turbo set up for that, and been having ideas of fabbing for the sl instead. would be one of a kind! 2 ball bearing gt35r's. i think 2 gt30's would fit the sl better though.
You have to share some more info on the other build, big fan of turbos. I just bought a billet 7168 from precision for my stage 2 GN. I wish we had more room to work with, I would have done a nice single turbo setup on my SL. A 6265 BB would make 650 without breaking a sweat.
i was entertaining a rear mount turbo set up. the area where the mufflers are is huge. you could do a large water to air intercooler in the trunk also. there is always room. lol

my other project is a protouring 67 camaro. doing a tt lsx. viper 6spd, 350z irs, custom built frame, speedtech whole front subframe, and making it a widebody by spacing out all the stock sheetmetal. will look kind of stock, but, 3" wider in rear. running 19x10 and 20x13 adv05.1 one piece. they are the exact wheels that came off of the owner of adv's (jordan) blue z06 vette they used in their very first advertising.
long ways to go on it. only thing stock or untouched will be the roof. floor pan and firewall gone too. so, it is pretty much building a car from scratch. will have abs and traction control also. it will be a top car for sure!!
a couple pics-

so ya, doing some bolt ons and minor fab to the sl isn't too big of a deal compared to this project. lol
glad to see you're interested in the older domestic stuff too. this camaro was actually my first car i got when i was 15. can't ever sell it!
