i snagged a drivers side. he just listed it yesterday and made him an offer. he accepted, just waiting for invoice. so, looking for passenger side now. the one i got is black. doesn't matter though if passenger side is black or silver, i am pulling them a part anyways and doing something to them and they will match when done.
this is quite a difference. i have seen pics of the stock manifolds, but it really gets put into perspective in this pic.
looks like there is room to run the exhaust just the way i wanted. can keep all bends to 45 degree or less, till the back. will run the stock mufflers and tips till the misha kit starts going on.

a guy was selling his sl55 and bought these but never had a chance to install them. he said he was sure they were for a 230 though. i hate those 3 bolt flanges and will cut those off and continue the collector a little further and put a flex joint. off the back of the flex i have some v-band clamps i will weld on. there is just enough room i can do 45 degree bends around trans instead of 90's that most use. right after trans i will merge a Y into the center 4.5" section. i will run the rear with a straight section incase i really need a resonator and can cut it out later.

I think the Lambo Blue fits the WB Benz the best.while paint is just paint, it seems fitting for an exotics color to find its way to an equally exotic looking SL. I think that has a fine metallic/mica though and you said you prefer a solid color. I think the Ford Grabber is the only solid of those three colors...

correct! i went to the paint place today and while they didn't have the lambo color charts, i was curious by the pic if it didn't have a pearl top coat by the way the light was reflecting. apparently the 370z color did have a pearl. i got a 1/2 pint of the ford grabber and did a quick spray out. while it would slap you in the face in a nice way, i am not sure i can make it work with the light gray interior, that is with doing all black accents on the exterior. would look killer till the top went down, then would look questionable.
after going through my paint cabinet tonight i ran across some kosmic chrome. i am kind of back to silver, but, it has already been done. so thought of a different way of doing silver. a thought has crossed my mind of starting with a base of stock brilliantsilber (germans way of spelling silver, lol) and then doing a couple coats of kosmic chrome. to get fancy, a couple coats of alabaster pearl over that. it would be a killer show piece, but i just lost any amount of touch up i could do in case of a scratch. it would be a full repaint. right now it is an itch i want to scratch though and if you are going to do it, do it big. maybe it is the beer and shots though and i come to my senses tomorrow.
got any pics of your camaro?

all headlights, ballasts, grill, and rad supports are on way. just need the kit. already bought the clear for the paint. trying another spray out with the stock silver with a couple coats of alabaster pearl over it. it is white with a silver flop, should be cool. so it will be a 3 stage paint job similar to doing candies.
heading to pick up exhaust tubing and bends now. project for the weekend is building the exhaust. rear toe link parts won't be here till monday and same with gauges. dam you christmas and holding up my shipping times!

Which radiator support pieces did you order? I was under the impression that our pre facelift supports would work with the facelift except for the lower headlight bracket.

the goal is making the fiberglass look like a stamped factory metal part. zero ripples even on long panels, and steel can only be bent to about a 1/8" radius even in corners. so you sand all corners to that radius. i have 24" long sanders also. that thing makes ANY waves apparent even on a panel that looks perfect. guide coats are the key. you mist black paint on first, then start sanding with the long flat sander. on low spots, the black paint will still be there, high spot, the paint will be sanded off. you just keep going till all the guide coat is gone. PERFECTION! haha

exhausting day! literally. only one collector finished today and the Y inlet for the center oval tube. alot of set up has been done though for other parts so should be up to the rear axle by end of tomorrow.
first is cutting off the stupid 3 bolt connector
length off headers to first junction.
Y pipe. ok ok, it isn't finished perfect, but it will get smoothed out with carbon soon enough.
Y pipe necks a little at the merge. one of the 3" pipes will get cut in half. then a 3" strip of flat welded top and bottom creating a 3"x6" oval pipe through the center of car. i will make another Y at rear for exit.
been doing zero gap fitment on the welds. takes forever on jack stands!! have to bolt headers on and off again like 5 times each!!

so both headers, collectors to the trans end, and o2 sensors back on. got the oval pipe made. that was a *****!! should work good though. kind of wonder how much noise cancellation will be created in the oval. would be nice to only run mufflers and not have it be too obnoxious.
i should finally be to the rear axle tomorrow.

Check it out OZ, although you switched your color scheme, thought you'd be interested to see one in this color. Hows the exhaust working out?

thanks kustom. ya, i found a pic of that car a few days after wanting to do the blue, lol. so much for being original! but, his is matte, so it still would be different.
to look at color schemes i went into my gt5 game and bought an sl55. lowered it and put black wheels on it. i have been testing colors on it. hahaha. it is almost better than photoshopping it!! get to see the car in action from all angles, haha. i am still leaning towards the blue, it looked cray cool on the car in the game.
i have been working alot lately, so exhaust is still not done. still didn't stop me from firing it up in the garage with open headers though. i am keeping the stock rear mufflers and tips till misha kit gets here monday or tuesday. the rear tubes are 2.75" and with the big oval center it will make it so each exhaust pulse has 2 2.75" pipes to exit through. even being a little smaller, it effectively would be better than 2 4" pipes in a true dual configuration.
the pics from here on out should get a whole lot cooler! most all parts for misha conversion will be here early next week!!!

I live very close to FTP & am having Steve do just about everything that you can think of (bolt on anyway) to my ride... installing Kleemann headers, don't need to run cats in Ohio but should I?????

If you dont like the smell of unburnt gas, then run race cats. It can get stinky with the top down in traffic. Get them as close as possible to the headers.

By the way, I am interested in snagging a grill like that. Where did you get it?

they said he was a jack russel, but his legs are a little long and he is skinnier than a normal jack russel, so i am guessing he has some rat terrier (or terrorist!).
i got the grill at parts.com. great prices on stuff. retail is like $700, can get it for about $400 there! it is the 2009+ grill though. if you wanted a single blade style for the earlier style, i am selling my current one. it only has a couple hundred miles on it. pics at beginning of thread if interested.

exhaust done!! it took so long i didn't want to even remove it again to take pics! car is still up though so i will see if i can snap one off under the car tomorrow.
not using any cats, and surprisingly, hardly any gas smell fumes at idle. while idling it sounds only a touch louder than stock. stab the throttle and it really lights up!! the throttle seems so much more crisp and faster revving now too. no doubt it freed up alot of hp in my set up. would love to go for a spin, but misha kit will be here tomorrow and want to get cracking on that right away.
one of the rear mounts i made solid on the exhaust. not surprisingly i am getting alot of sound traveling into the cabin now because of it. will turn it into a rubber mount in the next couple days though. it is so much more crisp and quick to rev now and when it does it lets out a demonic roar!! the sound will match perfect the new misha kit look.
