SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Faded window moulding

Faded window moulding
Hi all. I am looking for some help. All my window trim moulding, including the windshield moulding, had faded or oxidized. I can't seem to get them back to black (they are purplish right now). Underneath some of it appears bronze. I think it's metal moulding (aluminum maybe) but everywhere I have been right now tells me it's plastic. I am looking to restore it or possibly paint it as I don't want to buy all new trim from the dealer. Can anyone tell me if the trim is actually metal or plastic? And anyone have any success restoring them? It's not the rubber weatherstripping, it's the moulding attached to the weather stripping on. 2009 SL63. Thanks!

if its not rubber, you have to sand it and paint it
Mask it all, then sand with 600 wet , then paint with satin black SEM trim paint
or replace it all with new parts.

Ok thanks for the help! So can the black anodized aluminum be repainted or vinyl wrapped? So far two body shops I went to wouldn't touch it and said it is too difficult to re-paint! Also one wrap place said they wouldn't do it as the adhesion wouldn't be great....I'm frustrated! Should I try another wrap place then?

Well, mine are not that far gone yet, but I know what you mean, they just don't look good all faded on a black car! (the sun is the culprit) but if your in SoCal, try this wrap guy...Don Nguyen (He's a sponsor here on the forum) and I've seen the work he's done on some BMW moldings, so I don't know why it couldn't be done on ours...good luck

Well it looks like I can get it wrapped her locally in Vancouver. Every body shop I went to wouldn't paint the trim because its Anodized Aluminum. So we will see how the wrapping turns out. The wrap shop showed me work they have done on other trim and it looked good. Going with gloss black.

Hey Vancouver guys
Let me know when you're doing wrapping in Vancouver, I'd like to wrap some bits on my SL as well.. maybe we can do them at the same time or something.

While they mopped my car they accidently took off some off the black on
my window trims showing grey patches.Don't know what there made off,
tried some back to black and black trim wax. It's OK till it rains. I imagine
masking them off and painting them, or better still fit new ones.
Yours seem to have gone quickly on a 2009 car.

I took mine to PH Solar Window Tinting on Kingsway. I had the trim wrapped in gloss black and they did a fantastic job! Cost for all trim including the windshield trim was $300. The trim is anodized aluminum and I couldn't find any body shops that wanted to paint the trim. They said anodized aluminum is hard to paint?!?!?
