Hi,
This is my first post though I have been reading the posts regularly. I need your help in choosing the right kind of wheels for my SL 500. As I dont have the oppurtunity to visit wheel shops due to my location ( we do not have much choice here), I have no option but to order from the internet. My problem is that I cannot decide on the design. I need 19 or 20 inch wheels. It would be greatly appreciated if some photographs of SL 500 are posted with different wheels so I can see how they look on the car itself rather than looking at the wheels alone. I hope the good folks out there will help me out. Also any suggestion on the Tire make and model would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

Expect a slightly bumpy ride with 19"s. Expect a VERY bumpy ride with 20"s.

Do you like classic 5-spoke designs or Mesh designs or double-spoke designs? Polished silver or chrome? Tell us more about your preferences and we can help out easier. Or you can send me an e-mail: harris@hartonmotorwerks.com, I will be glad to assist you.

Cosmetic-wise, 20s' look great! Practicality-wise, 19s' are better.

I am not sure, its just that I need to see various ones before I decide. Which wheels are there on the carlsson SL in your website, are they the 1/16 diamond or Ultra light. How much would they cost. Also I liked the ones I saw in this forum, on a black SL, I guess they were HRE's. How do the AMG Twinspoke look on the car. I am sorry if I am asking too much, but I need to be sure before I order anything that I feel bad about later.I dont think chrome would look good on a Silver car.

Yup, the Carlsoon SL on my site is the 1/16 Ultra Light. Those wheels are very rare. More and more people are putting HREs, and they have so many designs, do you remember which one is it? And if you want to keep everything AMG, then the 19" double spoke Style IV will be your best choice. Just saw one at my local dealership the other day, they look aewsome. Well, you saw the 1/16 on the SL already, and for HRE and AMG, go to their official website, they both have a wheel generator. Let me know if you have any questions.

I am not that excited about the AMG's as I need the wheels to have some depth, you know what I mean, it should look deep. What are those wheels on the WALD car.

Ummm....if you are looking for deep dish, then you should go for 1/16, HRE, Lowenhart or Work wheels. WALD belongs to a different class.....not my cup of tea.

Hala Najeeb, If you want a deep dish look - I suggest HRE's like JL88's car (look in the SL R230 forum for pics of his car) but not in Chrome, his car is black so you can get yours polished lip or something. Or check out SL Shank's car pics in this forum with Inden BBS wheels - they are deep dish and very yummy. Another one to look at is Kleeman wheels, they have a deep dish version of them. Good luck. I do agree, the AMG's dont come with enough lip.

I am getting more confused now. I was in Dubai yesterday and went to the lorinser dealership, they also have the agency for carlsson. Saw the LM 6 20 inch on a silver and also a Black sl. The sizes were 9 fr and 11 rear, they looked just Ok, not that great. There was another silver SL with the carlsson 1/16 UL 20 inch 9.5 fr and 11 rear, didnt look so special either. Maybe because the rears were soo wide, they kind of looked ugly. Also the UL were too shiny and didnt look good on the silver finish. Please guys help me decide. Are the carlsson brilliant edidtin less shiny than the ul's. What are your ideas about the lorinser LM 6, or any other suggestions. Harris has been very helpful in sending me ideas on email, and I am really thankful to him.

Najeeb: the brilliant edition is less shiny than the UL. It is because the center piece of the brilliant edition is painted silver, only the lip is polished (shiny). But as I've said, there is no brilliant edition in anywhere. The only set available is the one that I told you about. Hopefully, Carlsson NA will bring in some over.

Btw, how much is the 20" UL that you saw? Is it more expensive than my price? If not, better get the wheels in Dubai, there is no point to buy from me if its cheaper there.

Cant comment much on Lorinser, because I dont like their wheels.

Let me know your decision/findings.

HRE's
Najeeb, did you check out HRE's website yet? I also do not like Lorinser or Carlson wheels on the SL. Check out the picture thread in this forum for the latest pictures posted of a silver SL55 with 19" HRE wheels. Very delicious. Good luck on your decision.

The HRE's look very similar to the carlsson 1/16. Harris the UL in dubai were about $10K with tires. The dealer in dubai told me that he can get me the Diamond edition in 19. But now Im not too sure because of the shiny surface. I might consider the Brilliant if like you said it is less shiny. I ordered the lorinser lowering module from him, which can bring the car down about 30 - 40 mm.
