Mars Red

I have fallen head over heels in love with the colour Mars Red,
I am seriously contemplating having my 65 repainted Mars red.
The whole job, engine bay the lot. Am I mad, what are the chances
of finding a Mars Red SL65 in my price range, up to 100k. Will it really
effect the resale value.

You're asking for opinions so here's mine. I'd devote time for a serious search to find an OEM Mars Red before investing time and money toward painting your SL65.

A premium and durable paint job will cost a lot of money that might be better applied as a premium to secure a scarce Red SL.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

+1. Don't repaint your SL65.

If you can't find a red SL65 and you are getting ready to paint yours, just wrap it. Wrapping is now the way to go. A good wrap looks great.

Hey sound 8, what happened to your SL63?....a repaint will decrease the value of your car. In addition it will never be like the original.

Check out my Mars Red SL63

Thanks guys, the only trouble with buying a Mars Red SL65 is they are as
rare as rocking horse ****. What does it entail to cover it, and can it be taken
off without damaging the original paint.
Luv the red 63, I changed to a 65 because the later 2007 drove so much
better than the 2003 I drove first, plus I luv Turbo's.

I disagree on the getting it wrapped. The wraps I've seen are obvious 20 ft away. Light doesn't reflect off of it the same as it does clear coat. Not saying a wrap can't look good. Just not the same as a clear coated paint. Wraps are easily damaged by rocks chips and bird droppings. Certainly go to a good shop and take a look at some of the cars they done. Wraps can be removed but shops won't guarentee that the paint will be ok when removed.

I also wouldn't do a re-paint on a car to another factory color. As said already, it will decrease the value of the car. A re-paint to an exoctic color would make more sense. Putting on a body kit and repainting it to an exoctic color is more typical.

But if you really want it Mars Red and you've got the money. Then make yourself happy!

Highly disagree....if someone uses quality vinyl and actually knows what they are doing, it won't damage the paint and you can't tell the difference. I know people who re-wrap Ferraris/Lambos yearly.

However, just as with paint or with anything....it's all in the quality of the vinyl used and the installation. I can imagine if someone doesn't know what they are doing....it will show. That's why you are going to pay $3k-4k for a good wrap job....however, it's better than 2x that for a paint job.

Please paint the wing vent red, I don't know why they do this. Even worse
is the side of an Audi R8. Even carbon fibre would be better that silver.

I dont think your SL will have a high resale value regardless. Repaint and save the hassle of finding a factory painted SL.

Hi, no I meant the wing vent, not the bumper, these come silver no matter what colour your car is. The picture of your car has it in silver.

ahaaa. I see what you mean. Actually Silver is the best choice in my opinion. the 6.3 badge is more apparent.

but I still dont understand, why did you get rid of your 63?

Hi, I loved the 63 ,the noise and the gearbox, the only trouble was there
is nothing to do to make the 63 faster, and it was costing nearly a grand a month. So I found a really nice 65 and with the part exchange it paid of what
I owed and gave me a 2007 65 for free. I don't miss the 63 now, I just love
the enormous torque and acceleration the 65 has. One thing is for sure I do
not like the new 63 and much prefer yours. I do like the new 5.5 TT engine
matched to a MCT gearbox.
