Question about trunk struts...

I am going to replace my trunk struts, I found 2 different part numbers I don't know which one I should go with, 2309800264 w/remote controlled lock, 2309800164 w/o remote, I searched on google and both part number seems to fit the "01-12 SL55", mine is 04, can anyone tell me what is remote controlled lock?????

My 'guess' is that it refers to the feature where the switch on the driver's door panel (behind the seat adjusting switches) 'unlocks' the trunk when you pull it inwardly.

BUT - it might relate to a system that automatically opens the trunk lid via an electric motor (my 2003 does not have that feature, don't know whether any of the SL55's do, but my Audi A8 has it).

I believe one is if you have the power trunk close/open option, the other is for manual trunks.

Just take the guess work out of it and take it to Mercedes where they will charge you $150 for the pair.

Check this out. $58.40 for a pair shipped. Much better price than at the dealer.

Does your 2005 model have automatic opening of the trunk? - fully open the trunk I mean?

Here is a pair for ~$55 plus shipping that have a lifetime guarantee (might just be the lifetime of the struts, which the seller can declare as dead whenever he/she chooses!!). But, I recently installed a pair of these in my '2003 SL55 AMG, (electrical unlatch, but manually open) and they function well.
