I told the shop lets not do the star but they wore me down claiming it's really needed if I wanted a unique one of a kind car for shows.

Thanks for all your comments !
so now that we all had a good natured chuckled, who can help me sort through mods ?

I'm searching for parts and for the R231 I can't find down pipes, anyone ?

Anyone with a tuned R231, Eurocharged, OE or Renntech why did you pick your brand ?
Did you get the same results as they advertised ?

I like your individuality and I like the red accents. if had to do it I would leave the front grill star in black and red out the inside of the star if you know what I mean. That subtle change would make a bit of a difference. I particularly like the red strip on the front lip.

Tom I applaud your desire to be different... I just got an SL63 in white and love it. My dyno on a dynodynamics was similar 520hp and 619tq stock with 166 miles. I did a shelf tune from OE and got 579hp and 661tq at the wheels. My car has the PP kit with 557 crank stock hp and 664 crank stock tq.

I wish there were more true aesthetic bolt on mods like a front lip and rear diffuser.

I dropped my car with ABC mods and also pulled the two small resonator cans... the sound is even better.

I wasn't thinking you got any sarcastic answers, I thought you got honest answers from a group that all have different tastes. You have a F-ing SL63 (R231) nuff said on this board, it is an awesome machine.

By the way, I have the Renntech ELM2. It is actually made by the company that RT uses but doesn't have the RT name on so is way cheaper. A guy on the boards used to set up group buys. I am trying to get info on it and will pass it on to you if i do.

The ELM is sweet IMO. It is easily adjustable using the remote. Also, there are two setting where you can adjust the drop based on speed (MPH). I have my R230 dropped about 1.5 inch (if I remember right), but when the car is going 25 mph, it raises back up .75 inch. At 45, it goes back to normal ride height. This means I get all of the performance of the proper right height while at road speeds which means almost no crazy wear patterns on the tires. As soon as I stop or slow down, the drop goes back down. If you want to stay dropped at any speed, you can. To me, it is a perfect compromise between looks and performance.

Here is a pick so you can see the drop. A drop and tint are my only appearance mods. I like my mods to be under the hood. Go on ahead and rip on its looks if you wish.

Modded 2013 SL63 with performance package

Thanks Vic. I have been searching for down pipes but cant find any.

Have a company ready to custom make them but really wanted a set already tested and marketed. I think pulling the two resonators would sound better but may not help me achieve my performance targets.

OE was my first choice and they dyno tuned my last car with great results !
Is your lowering unit, the Renntech module ?

The only exterior pieces I found are at GMP Performance. They supply pieces sold by a company I'm not familiar with (Revozport) and since carbon fiber varies in quality I decided to take another avenue.

For sure tom, I agree about the resonators and expected zero gains but for 100 dollars the sound enhancement is worth it all day everyday.

Lowering- I dont adjust my car and the internal button allows for raise and lower so I had my tech just adjust the links at each corner to the level I like. A lowering module is good if you like to go up and down alot with driving preferences but I like mine set at the current height. It took them all of 20 minutes to set the height and the pricing was .... freeeeee

I have heard of the retailer GMP and Revozport but have never bought their stuff, ill check in out!!

Thanks Tom.

Mercedes spent a great deal of time and money designing a classy looking
supercar, I am afraid you have turned it into a cheap kit looking track
day car, all it needs are the cigarette adds.

I think there is something very interesting with the red front lip, can work very well with red wheels or time attack red ring wheels.

To be honest, and that is just my opinion, the red star is absolutely ugly.

So as I said in posts #34, I would get back to you on the ELM unit I have. It is made by a company called ProGrama. I am pretty sure they make the unit Renntech puts their name on and sells for much more. Here is a link
http://www.programainc.com/product_d...aspx?sf=LCMR01

You might want to ask about the R231 platform.

My remote was installed in the phone cubby.

By the way, that is not a crack pipe next to the remote. It is a CPS.

R231 Tuning News

Update's:

Renntech ELM is being installed Tuesday.

Searching for a black AMG hood badge.
Tuner ordered me one from Japan but its too small. Ideas ?

Working on a custom license plate frame idea.

OE Tuning knows a company making downpipes soon (already in development) for the R231.
I wont have to have them custom designed, built and tested, thank god !

The track event was when the car was 4 weeks old.
As of this weekend, I've had the car for just 9 weeks.

A bit off topic, but is there any tune for the R231 that is not a bench tune?

The Minneapolis market is pretty slim here for good shops...
