SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: SL65 Intakes, Suggestions

06 SL65AMG, 13 Tesla Model S 60kwh, 02 Jaguar S-Type 3.0, 12 S550 4 Matic, 07 E320 Bluetec, 06 LX470
SL65 Intakes, Suggestions
So I've been trying to find ways to improve air intake delivery for the SL65.
I've been looking at the air boxes and slightly bigger intake pipes Renntech has but for the HP gain vs cost I feel like its a waste.
I know Speedriven has a scorpion intake, but my biggest concern is heat soak
I was thinking maybe do something like the Brabus setup they have for the SL65 since I'm getting the body kit put on in late march/early may and the intakes look like they go right where the air scoops are on the hood
But then I saw this recently on Speedriven and I was thinking, this could very much solve the heat soak issue
What do you guy's think?

I would be more inclined to go with this intake than the scorpion intake. One is sucking in very hot air from the engine bay and the other is sucking in cooler air from the front of the car.

This new intake was made for the big turbo & IC kit equiped SL's
Though appears it will work on a stock setup too. I willbe getting this CAI when Marcin sends my Turbo kit I will post ton of pix

I'm certain it can be done prettier than I did it..
But not sure how? If any of you have studied the oem outlets you know all too well how cramped it is in there.. I'd love to see what Marcin, did Im sure its the way to go vs mine.

Sorry to dig up a months old thread, but just wondering if anyone has found a cost effective intake solution, other than the 90deg aluminum bend with a filter on it? (which by the way, probably works pretty good, and is my back up plan). I am working on my own solution, which I'm sure has been done, but I would think it should work. I'll likely start my own thread after it is executed and I have dyno proven (or disproven) results. I am starting to feel that the heat soak problem isn't as much of a problem as people think it is, with regard to air intake. Hopefully I'll have something in 2-3 weeks or so. Would love to hear anyone else's ideas....

I am working on my own setup for my CL65 as well. I think I can fabricate one for about $100 not counting filters. Using high quality vs. cheap stuff will increase it to about $300 + filters. Not going to be as pretty as Speedrivens but it's not like I'm using ABS from Home Depot either.

Excellent. Thank you. Mine is considerably more money as I had to buy another set of stock air boxes... in the event I have an epic failure. I am just modding the stock air boxes with air filters and some shrouding...nothing high tech or expensive. I plan to dyno with every solution in place, from stock, to stock/modded to just a pipe with a filter on it....I'm hoping the OP gets back on the dyno and posts his results as that will be interesting to compare after also...as I still have cats in place...

Sean, did you do your out-front filter setup before or after the front end facelift? Trying to remember if you had room up front for the filters with the old nose like I have.

This is my take on this...if I relocate my horns and remove the 2 small support rods up front, 2 filters would fit, HOWEVER, the intake inlet hole on the drivers side is obscured by 2 lines that cannot be moved, at least very easily. Frustrating, but I think I will see decent results with not a lot of money spent...

Manufacturers don't keep em high for nothing. Also although they are at the font of the engine aren't they blocking air from the radiator, and as I said
