SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Aluminum Fenders?

Aluminum Fenders?
Are the front fenders on a 2005-2006 SL65 aluminum? I had a car looked at for PPI and they (dealership) said they could not get a reading on the hood or the fenders. I have a meter that will read aluminum and ferrous. I'm wondering if they know what is going on.

I concur the fenders are aluminum (or aluminium on the east side of the Atlantic).
Look at the area where they are fastened under the hood. Fiberglass does NOT look like the edges of the fender material you see there. From my magnet, the only steel are the two rear body quarter panels and the L and R rear pieces of the roof.

PS: I can attest to the strength and resilience of the aluminum used in the doors. About 3 months after buying my '03 SL55, when driving at dusk, a full size whitetail deer jumped off a ledge that bordered the road and was about 10 feet high. The deer landed 'on' the passenger door. The 'bang' was terrible, and frightened my wife terribly. We both thought the door was severely damaged, and started thinking about who was the best repair person for matching 10 year old (but great condition) Firemist pearl metallic paint. A few more miles and we were home. Looked at the door, and there was not a thing noticeable about the incident. no dents, no mars, no blemishes - perfect just as it had been 25 minutes earlier.
Looking in the rear view mirror after the 'bang', the deer was laying in the middle of the road and struggling to get up. Watched for a few seconds and it did struggle to the other side of the road, along with a buddy who jumped down after we passed.

Yes, your are all correct about SL55 front fenders being aluminium.
Although I have an SL55 AMG, I'm afraid I was thinking about the CL55 (W215) with its composite front fenders.

My CL front fenders are composite and thought the SL were as well .
