SL 65
SL65 glazed rotors, $3K to replace?
So my dealer says my squeaking brakes on my 2005 SL65 are due to glazed rotors and they need replacing for $3K (front rotors, pads, and labor). Dealer tried to recondition the rotors, but to no avail. Does this sound right?

I don't suppose tracking the car a few times had anything to do with this?

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
depends on the miles on it, the condition of the rotor and pads overall, this sounds right

Dealer price for the rotors is around $1100 each - throw in pads, wear sensors, and labor, and $3K is about right.

Go to Parts.com they will save you about 20% on OEM parts. I bought rotors & pads for 2006 CL65 from them & had friend install them. BIG Savings!

oh yea you'll need to replace the little brake sensor too.

If you're tracking it, chance are you're comfortable around a wrench. Also good chance you've done brake jobs before. The SL is no different. In fact, it's one of the easiest I've ever done. Only caveat being to unplug the SBC controller first and hide the keys so the unlock button doesn't accidently get depressed.

Buy parts online, and do it yourself for a fraction.

What he said..........I was quoted $5000 by the stealer for front pads & rotors for my '08 CL65. Got EVERTHING online for $1700 and did it myself.

BTW Deven, I had the same problem with my SL55 and was told the rotors could not be turned. That turned out to be false as I found a machine shop that did both rotors for $15 each.

Dont give up...
There is a minimum thickness spec for the rotors (see your owner's manual). As long as turning them doesn't take them under the minimum you're ok.

Which plug is for the sbc controller? I have to do my front brakes and want to make sure I do it right.

Nope, just be sure to keep ignition key out or keyless fob away from the car. Dont open any doors or trunk which will activate this system and code you out.
